About the Position: The San Antonio MEPS is one of a network of 65 MEPS located nationwide and in Puerto Rico. The mission of USMEPCOM and the San Antonio MEPS is to process individuals for enlistment or induction into the armed services, based on DoD-approved peacetime and mobilization standards. This position will be filled on a permanent basis.

Duties

As a Human Resources Assistant (Military/Office Automation), you will: Greet and account for visitors/applicants in and out of the MEPS. Utilize several military personnel database systems to update and/or maintain information to ensure the most current and accurate data available. Utilize an automated system to fingerprint individuals and transmit fingerprints. Prepare correspondence (i.e. memorandums, emails, reports, SOPs, etc.) in accordance with agency regulations. Provide military personnel clerical support functions to the organization with responsibility for monitoring, reviewing, verifying and coordinating military personnel information and/or documents.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position has been designated as non-sensitive and requires a personnel security background check.
  • This position may require you to work an occasional Saturday.
  • This position may require you to work occasional overtime to accommodate fluctuations in workload based on the daily mission requirements.
  • This position may require you to work shift work (work before 0600 or after 1800 hours).
  • The position requires successful completion of applicable Military Health System (MHS) GENESIS Training in order to access the MHS GENESIS System within 30 days of on-boarding and/or as required.

Specialized experience is defined as experience that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled, such as: Operating and maintaining a fingerprint system to ensure proper prints are obtained; Preparing transportation orders (i.e. travel claims, reservations, or per diem claims) for applicants; Briefing applicants on rules and procedures to ensure understanding and compliance; Maintaining and searching records to provide information to requestors; Obtaining data from applicants to verify eligibility for military enlistment; Utilizing office automation software programs to accomplish tasks. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04). Education Substitution for Specialized Experience for GS-05: Successful completion of four years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.) Combination of Experience and Education Substitution for Specialized Experience for GS-05: If you have some, but not all, of the experience and education described above, you may still qualify by combining the amount of creditable experience and education that you possess. To compute the percentage, divide your total months of qualifying experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two year (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify.). (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.) TYPING: This position requires a qualified typist with a typing proficiency of at least 40 words per minute (WPM) based on a 5 minute sample with 3 or fewer errors. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: ClericalCommunicationsCustomer Service (Clerical/Technical)Data Systems and Management Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-04). In addition, if your step reflects '00', you must include your current salary for each position.
