The Phoenix VA Health Care System is recruiting for one (1) Health Technician (Radiology) for the Diagnostic Imaging Service at the Carl T. Hayden VA Medical Center. This position is responsible for interacting with patient and/or patient's family in preparation for procedure/exam. This position communicates information to the patient and/or patient's family before and after exam performed.

Duties

The Health Technician (Radiology) is an assistant to the Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist (Magnetic Resonance Imaging). This position prepares a patient for procedures to be performed. The major duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to: Completes Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) screening form, and instruct the patient how to fill out required paperwork. Reviews the paperwork with the patient, to include the MRI pre-screening forms, and identify possible Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) contraindications within the patient's history. Retrieves lab results for patients including estimated Globular Filtration Results (eGFR). Prepares all incoming requisitions. Explains the various type of Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) exam procedures. Prepares documentation needed by physician. Assists with the orientation of new resident physicians and technologists on policies, laboratory, and hospital procedures. Takes inventory of supply stock by identifying, ordering, and restocking supplies, replacement and purchase of supplies and equipment from the appropriate services or vendors. Instructs the patient how they will get their results, including the process for requesting images. Consults with hospital physicians, clinical and administrative personnel pertaining to the next day and future day's availability for patient examinations. Checks all equipment and reports failures to the MRI Supervisor or Lead Technologist. Operates office equipment such as computers, fax machines, photocopiers, voice mail messaging systems and computer scanning equipment to complete department tasks. Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 12/05/2023. Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a Gs-6 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-5. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment. You may qualify based on your experience as described below: Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-5 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: experience as a health technician, experience documenting information in computer systems, preparing documentation for procedures, and processing results or tests. You will be rated on the following Competencies for this position: Attention to DetailClericalDecision Making Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Physical Requirements: The position includes physical exertion such as regular and recurring walking, stooping, bending, reaching and lifting of equipment and supplies. The incumbent must be able to perform the following: pulling, pushing, reaching above the shoulders and laterally, use both hands, arms; sitting, walking, and standing for long periods. Also, kneeling, repeated bending. Work Environment: The Health Technician (Radiology) performs work in a busy care environment with medical emergencies, rapid patient tum-over, and routine exposure to infectious and contagious diseases. This position is required to use universal precautions and aseptic techniques.
