About the Position: This is a permanent position with MEPS Fort Dix, New Jersey.
The purpose of this position is to serve as the Lead Human Resources Assistant (OA) responsible for directing and guiding 3 - 5 Human Resources Technicians in GS-203-05 or military equivalent. Incumbent of this position provides technical expertise, guidance and leadership to the Processing Element of the Military Entrance Processing Station (MEPS).
Duties
Coaches, facilitates, solves work problems and participates in the work of the MEPS Processing Element.
Distributes and balances the workload among employees in accordance with established procedures and assures timely accomplishment of the assigned workload.
Prepares reports and maintain records of work accomplishments and administrative information.
Performs Human Resource Technician duties identical to those led.
Certifies that enlistment has been properly conducted and that all additional disclosed information has been supplied to the service representative.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- May be required to work an occasional Saturday and/or shift work.
- Routinely be required to work unscheduled overtime to accommodate fluctuations in workload based on the daily mission requirements.
- May be required to perform occasional over night travel as assigned up to 5%.
- Successful completion of applicable Military Health System (MHS) GENESIS Training is required in order to access the MHS GENESIS System within 30 days of on-boarding and/or as required.
- Appointment to this position is subject to a two year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
- Qualified typist required; 40 Words Per Minute (WPM).

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 level in the Federal service which includes: Experience in Human Resources personnel operations including experience in making person-to-person contacts to explain regulatory, procedural, and policy requirements. Experience processing transactions of an unusually complicated nature; providing counseling and assistance to personnel; and prepare reports using data from various sources. Distribute and balance the workload among employees. Use common computer software designed for word processing.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-05). Time in grade requirement must be met by the closing date of this announcement.
