This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.
About the Position: Serves as Supervisory Medical Technician in a Military Entrance Processing Station, providing program oversight and supervision to Medical Technicians.
This position is located at: United States Military Entrance Processing Command in Boston, Massachusetts.
Duties
Plans, organizes, controls and directs the work to be accomplished by subordinates, set and adjust short-term priorities.
Prepare schedules for completion of work.
Assigns work to subordinates based on priorities, selective consideration of the difficulty and requirements of assignments, and the capabilities of employees.
Evaluates work performance of subordinates; gives advice, counsel, or instruction to employees on both work and administrative matters. Recommends appointment, promotion, or reassignment to such positions.
Interview candidates for positions.
Hears and resolves complaints from employees, referring group grievances and more serious unresolved complaints to a higher-level supervisor. Disciplinary measures, such as warnings and reprimands, recommending other action in more serious cases.
Identifies developmental and training needs of employees, providing or arranging for needed development and training. Finds ways to improve production or increase the quality of the work directed; and develops performance standards.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Applicant must be able to pass a color perception (vision) examination.
- Applicant must be physically able to perform (demonstrate) and evaluate military physical aptitude (maneuvers) tests.
- Applicant must undergo blood testing on a yearly basis.
- Must use restrictive and protective clothing such as surgical gloves, employee cannot wear exposing footwear.
- Occasional shift work (before 0600 or after 1800 hours) may be required.
- Occasionally may be required to work Saturdays.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes performing a wide variety of complex laboratory tests (chemical, hematologic, microbiologic and/or blood banking) and examinations; performing phlebotomy; delegating tasks and providing technical guidance to medical technicians and/or medical personnel. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
