Duties

In this Supervisory Information Technology Specialist position, you will become a key team member of Homeland Security professionals involved in supervising a technical staff who implement complex technological solutions and maintaining operational availability of information technology (IT), telecommunication, tactical communication, and/or enforcement technology systems. This position starts at a salary of $98,496.00 (GS-13, Step 1) to $128,043.00 (GS-13, Step 10) with promotion potential to $128,043.00 (GS-13 Step 10). In this Supervisory Information Technology Specialist position, you will become a key team member of Homeland Security professionals providing support and guidance on Information Technology systems and services. Typical work assignments include: Providing supervisory and administrative guidance to subordinates such as communicating team assignments, projects, and actionable events Providing technical guidance to and overseeing a team in the selection and application of appropriate problem-solving methods and techniques Identifying, distributing and balancing workload and tasks among employees in accordance with established workflow, skill level and/or occupational specialization Analyzing, planning, and developing network systems hardware and software installations consistent with existing and planned network infrastructures Diagnosing and resolving difficult customer-reported incidents and problematic trends to improve operational capability

BASIC REQUIREMENT: Applicants must have Information Technology -related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below. Attention to Detail - Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail. Customer Service - Works with clients and customers (that is, any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work unit produces, including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services. Oral Communication - Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately. Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations. You qualify for this position if you meet the basic requirement listed above and possess one year of specialized experience as described below. Experience: You qualify for the GS-13 grade level if you possess 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing duties such as: Supporting Information Technology (IT) systems and services by developing new methods, approaches and procedures. Diagnosing and resolving problems in response to customer reported incidents involving different platforms, operating systems, applications and desktop configurations. Researching, evaluating and providing feedback on problematic trends and patterns. Planning, designing, developing and integrating network systems consistent with existing or planned network infrastructures. Installing, configuring, troubleshooting and maintaining customer hardware and software. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. You must: Meet all qualification requirements, including education if applicable to this position, subject to verification at any stage of the application process; and Meet all applicable Time in Grade requirements (current federal employees must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade or equivalent grade band in the federal service) by 12/04/2023. The Office of Personnel Management (OPM) must authorize employment offers made to current or former political appointees. If you do not meet the residency requirement and you have been physically located in a foreign location for more than two of the last five years, you may request an exception to determine if you are eligible for a residency waiver by meeting one or more of the following conditions: Working for the U.S. Government as a federal civilian or as a member of the military A dependent who was authorized to accompany a federal civilian or member of the military who was working for the U.S. government Participation in a study abroad program sponsored by a U.S. affiliated college or university Working as a contractor, intern, consultant or volunteer supporting the U.S. government Probationary Period: All employees new to the federal government must serve a one year probationary period during the first year of his/her initial permanent federal appointment to determine fitness for continued employment. Current and former federal employees may be required to serve or complete a probationary period.
