This position provides health care aid at the VA Medical Center located in Des Moines, Iowa.
Duties
***THIS IS NOT A VIRTUAL POSITION, YOU MUST LIVE WITHIN OR BE WILLING TO RELOCATE WITHIN A COMMUTABLE DISTANCE OF THE DUTY LOCATION***
Provide holistic in-patient care.
Provide care for a group of patients/residents of varying ages.
Assist as needed with laundering and distributing resident's personal clothing.
Monitor flow of oxygen, replace empty tanks, and fill personal use portable oxygen.
Promote effective interpersonal relationships and communications with inpatients/residents, families and others.
Record care of inpatient/resident.
Work Schedule: Full-Time, All shifts available including 12 hour and 8 hour shifts. Work hours may include any of the following: 7:30am - 4:00pm, 7:30 am - 8:00pm, 3:30pm - Midnight, 11:30am - Midnight, 11:30pm -8:00am, 7:30pm - 8:00am. Weekend and holiday rotation is required.
Qualifications
To apply for this position, you must have the following qualifications:
English Language Proficiency - In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7402(d), No person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless they are proficient in basic written and spoken English. You must be proficient in basic written and spoken English in order to meet the requirements of this position.
AND
GENERAL EXPERIENCE:
GENERAL EXPERIENCE: At least six (6) months of general experience.
OR
SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED): Successful completion of l year of study that included study in medical, health, or related fields.
OR
COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED): Equivalent combinations of successfully completed education and specialized experience, as described above, which meet the total experience requirements for this grade level. The education portion must include study in medical, health, or related fields.

IMPORTANT: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Physical Requirements:
Duties require extensive periods of standing and walking. Working with residents
requires regular and recurring bending, lifting (not to exceed 35 pounds), reaching,
carrying, stooping, stretching and similar activities.
