This position is located in the Electroencephalography (EEG) Section, Office of the Clinical Director. The EEG Section provides electroencephalographic, polysomnographic and related electrodiagnostic services for NIH. Incumbent performs various highly specialized techniques in clinical and experimental settings. The ideal applicant should be certified by The American Board of Registration of Electroencephalographic and Evoked Potential Technologists, Inc. (ABRET) as a certified EEG Technologist.
Duties
Independently obtains satisfactory recordings or electroencephalograms and evoked potentials in neurological and neurosurgical patients, as well as in all patients referred from the Clinical Center.
Provides information about procedures to patients and/or the referring physicians and scientists and obtains applicable patient history and information necessary for the interpretation of tests.
Recognizes symptoms of deterioration in a patient's condition and especially the onset of an epileptic seizure and takes immediate steps to prevent injury.
Observes and provides an accurate and detailed description of a patient's seizures and conditions including localizing and lateralizing
features of seizure, duration, behavior of the patient during and after attacks and other relevant information.
Provides preliminary interpretations for emergency cases in the absence of a neurologist or other Medical Officer.
Works with neurologists, neurophysiologists, and other professional staff members in gathering and preparing material for publication and illustration.
Utilizes the computer-based system, receiving examination requisition and retrieves patient information needed for examinations.

Qualifications
You qualify at the GS-09 level, if you meet one of the following qualification requirements:
A. You must demonstrate in your resume at least one (1) year of qualifying experience equivalent to at least the GS-08 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: obtaining technically satisfactory recordings or electroencephalograms (EEGs) and evoked potentials in neurological and neurosurgical patients; performing a technical treatment or diagnostic procedures to assist medical and clinical personnel engaged in diagnosis and treatment of patients; calibrating, operating and maintaining laboratory equipment; maintaining detailed records and preparing record of test results; and analyzing test result and instrument readings to determine patient condition.

B. Completion of a Master's or equivalent graduate degree, or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or an LL.B. or J.D., if related.

C. A combination of education and specialized experience that meets the qualification requirements for this position.
