This position serves as an Intelligence Research Specialist in the Department of Justice (DOJ), National Security Division (NSD), National Security Cyber Section (NatSec Cyber). The mission of the NSD is to coordinate the DOJ's efforts in carrying out its core missions of protecting national security, countering foreign and domestic terrorism, protecting national security, and enhancing cybersecurity by disrupting state-sponsored cyber threats.

As a Security Research Specialist, at full performance level, you will perform duties such as: Identifying relevant raw, operational, and strategic intelligence to enhance investigative efforts, technical operations, and intelligence collection. Serving as a liaison to the FBI, USIC, Department of Defense (DOD), State Department, and other interagency partners. Regularly briefing program leadership, which shall include recommendations regarding resources, initiating investigations, collection opportunities, or pursuing operations to disrupt cyber threats. Conducting intelligence analyses, coordinates with other intelligence organizations as necessary and participates with prosecutors in developing case strategies and approaches.

Requirements

  • You must be a United States Citizen or National.
  • You will be required to complete a pre-employment security investigation and background check which includes a drug screening.
  • You may be required to complete a one-year probationary or two-year trial period.
  • Selective Service registration is required for males born on, or after, December 31st 1959. Those not registered should have an approved exemption on file.

Qualifications

To qualify for the position of Intelligence Research Specialist at (GS-0132-13), you must meet the basic qualification requirements listed below AND possess the required specialized experience specific to this series and grade you're applying to. If you are a current or former government employee on a permanent appointment in the competitive service, you will need to demonstrate 1-year (52-weeks) at the next lower grade level, to meet the time-in-grade requirements for this occupational series and grade. Additionally, please ensure to submit an applicable SF50 (please refer to the "required documents" section for additional information). You qualify for the GS-13 grade level if you possess one year of experience equivalent to the GS-12 level in the Federal service performing duties such as analyzing national intelligence information from multiple sources and extrapolating key facts to disseminate to mission stakeholders. You MUST meet all qualification requirements, including Time-in-Grade, by the closing date of this announcement, 12/11/2023.
