This position is located in the Business Office (BO) in one of the various IHS service units in the Great Plains and Bemidji Areas. The primary purpose of this position is to function as the Alternate Resources Benefits Coordinator, assuring the identification of patients who are eligible for alternate resources.
Duties
Identifies patients who are eligible for alternate resources such as Medicaid, Medicare, Veterans Benefits, Private Insurance and other resources.
Maintain statistics daily, monthly and quarterly for enrollments, approvals/denials of applications, verification and updating of the RPMS and overall assistance of patients with benefits.
Advocates on behalf of patients with all alternate resource activities.
Wo.rks closely with Federal, State, Tribal, Contract Health and Patient Registration in screening potential Patients who may be eligible for alternate resources.
Qualifications

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

In addition to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks:
GS-6: 1 year of specialized experience that equipped me with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of this position. This experience is related to the work of the position and equivalent to at least the GS-05 level in the Federal service as described in the vacancy announcement. Examples include: Assist patients and medical staff in completing forms, verify patient eligibility for benefits, review claims, interpret business office policies and procedures.
GS-7: 1 year of specialized experience that equipped me with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of this position. This experience is related to the work of the position and equivalent to at least the GS-06 level in the Federal service as described in the vacancy announcement. Examples include: Apply standardized rules, processes and procedures concerning claims processing; provide information to the public on insurance information; conduct personal or telephone interviews; review records and monitor pending actions.
GS-8: 1 year of specialized experience that equipped me with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of this position. This experience is related to the work of the position and equivalent to at least the GS-07 level in the Federal service as described in the vacancy announcement. Examples include: Apply an extensive body of rules and procedures concerning benefits to clarify benefit processes and procedures to patients; search records or guidelines; provide information and benefits of multiple alternate resources and advice patients of nonpayment or approval of claim; advise individuals on all aspects of benefits; compile and write reports applicable to business office and alternate resource needs.
Time In Grade
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
