The position is in the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), Veterans Health Administration (VHA), at the Carl T. Hayden VA Medical Center (VAMC) in the Nutrition, Hospitality, and Food Service (NHFS). The purpose is the safe and timely transport of patients and materials within the local campus. Items to be transported include laboratory specimens, medications, and equipment. Ambassador will act as a receptionist providing information and wayfinding assistance to Veterans and visitors.
Duties
Major duties include, but are not limited to:
Transports non-critical, medically stable inpatients throughout the campus directly to assigned destinations and escorts patients at discharge from the ward to their mode of transportation at least 4 hours/day dependent on daily assignment.
Transports medications, laboratory specimens, and other materials throughout the facility as assigned while following proper handling procedures and choosing the most efficient route up to 4 hours/day depending on daily assignment.
Properly uses, stores, and cleans equipment.
Communicates with all staff, co-workers, and families using good interpersonal skills and supports the customer service standards of the facility.
Trains new ambassadors and demonstrates proper safety techniques and body mechanics for the performance of duties.
Provides information in person about the organization, its functions, activities, and personnel to visitors and staff.
Uses office automation equipment such as computers, printers, copiers, and scanners.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 7:00am - 3:30pm, 8:00am - 4:30pm or 11:30am - 8:00pm, rotating weekends and holidays

Physical Requirements: The work is physically demanding, requiring extensive periods of walking, sitting, regular and recurring bending, lifting, stooping, stretching, pushing, pulling, reaching, carrying supplies, and similar activities. Other demands include lifting and/or pushing equipment (e.g. stretchers, wheelchairs, etc.) The use of good body mechanics is expected. Work is strenuous at least 50% of the time. Must be able to hear and respond to overhead calls. Incumbent will be caring for patients who may be uncooperative a nd combative due to physical or emotional stress. He/she must have the ability to function under pressure/stress typically associated with daily duties.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement.
GS-03 grade level: 6 months of general experience (Any type of work that demonstrates the applicant's ability to perform the work of the position, or (2) experience that provided a familiarity with the subject matter or processes of the broad subject area of the occupation. (We will NOT make assumptions about your work experience. Please be clear and concise in your resume. Please include to and from dates (month and year at minimum) and number of hours worked per week. Failure to do so could result in an 'Ineligible' rating)
OR
Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have successfully completed 1 year above high school that included study in the medical, health, or related fields.(If you are using education to qualify at the GS-3, you MUST upload a copy of your transcripts (unofficial is okay as long as it has your name and the name of the school) in order to receive the credit. Failure to do so will result in an 'Ineligible' rating)

Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level. For GS-03 level positions, determine the applicant's total qualifying experience as a percentage of the 6 months' experience required for GS-03; then determine the applicant's education as a percentage of the 1 year of education that meets the requirements for GS-03. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify an applicant for GS-03.
To calculate, first identify the percentage of required education you have earned (when substituting, you cannot use the first 60 semester hours that you earned). Then identify the percentage of required experience you possess. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify at the GS-03. For example, an applicant who has 9 semester hours of graduate level education (i.e. 50% of graduate education required) and 6 months of creditable specialized experience (i.e. 50% of the required experience) would equal 100% of the required experience for the position A transcript must be submitted with your application if you are basing all or part of your qualifications on education.
