About the Position: This is a temporary not-to-exceed 1 year position with provisions to be made permanent. This poisition is with the 2nd Battalion at Fort Hamilton, New York.

Duties

You will serve as a Human Resources Assistant (MIL/OA) providing administrative support to the Reception-Administration Control Desk (RACD), Record Maintenance and Accountability, and Enlistment Processing to include fingerprinting of applications. Verify applicants' Emergency Data Records. Prepare correspondence in accordance with agency regulations. Utilize an automated system to fingerprint individuals. Assemble documents in accordance with specific military service requirements. Distribute applicant documents to appropriate organizations. Interview candidates to obtain and verify background information. Maintain electronic enlistment files in accordance with established regulations.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Shift work (weekends and holidays), as required.
  • One year Probationary period may be required.
  • Scheduled and unscheduled overtime, as required.
  • This position has been designated as mission-essential.

Qualifications

If you are a current Army or DoD employee, this position will be filled from employees eligible for temporary promotion, temporary reassignment, or temporary change to lower grade. This position is temporary not-to-exceed 1 year. The position may be extended up to the maximum time of 5 years and may be made permanent at any time. If you are Interagency Career Transition Program (ICTAP) eligible or Military Spouse (Registered in the Priority Placement Program for this location, title, series, and grade) this position is a temp not-to-exceed 1 year and may be extended in one year increments up to maximum time of 6 years. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1) using automated software systems to enter/extract data; 2) maintaining/safeguarding files; 3) reviewing and/or editing correspondence; 4) greeting/directing visitors to appropriate locations/personnel. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04). OR B. Education: Four years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. OR C. Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages. **Proficiency Required: This position requires a qualified typist. A qualified typist can type 40 words per minute based on a 5 minute sample with three or fewer errors. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Attention to DetailHR Data ManagementHuman Resources Technology UsageOral Communication Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-04). If you are a current, Federal employee, you must include your pay plan, series and grade in your work experience(s) on your resume submission and/or upload supporting documentation (within-grade increase SF50) to show that you meet time-in-grade requirement. In addition, if your step reflects '00', you must include your current salary for each position.
