About the Position: This position works in Letterkenny Munitions Center (LEMC) Information Technology (IT) operations and functions. Serves as the systems administrator engaged in the operation, maintenance, enhancement and integration of all functions relating to specific systems.

Duties

Administers the Automated Identification Technology (AIT) System. Maintains the software (application and Oracle) and the hardware systems (application server and a database server) in a continual state of readiness. Creates batch programs and queries to increase user's productivity or to provide enhanced automation capabilities. Controls hardware and software configurations (including version levels) for supported systems. Detects damaged or lost files, optimizes disk management, measures system performance, controls system security, and/or extends system capabilities to support local requirements. Performs studies to assist management in the identification and definition of system administration functions that will be benefited by the application of new IT technologies. Provides LEMC user-level customers technical assistance and support in the use of various computer hardware, software and peripheral devices. Installs and configures new and upgraded hardware and software on user systems and network servers. Determines the extent of equipment problems on unresolved failures and coordinates necessary actions for repairs. Installs, monitors, troubleshoots and repairs server and microcomputer hardware components; resolving hardware/software interface problems and communications difficulties between components. Serves as LEMC's Information Assurance Security Officer (IASO) to provide direction on security for servers and a variety of IT equipment and computer programs for various individual system applications. Develops, implements, coordinates, reviews, and evaluates security plans, policies, technical/administrative procedures, programs, etc., associated with IT equipment, software, data and physical security, communications, etc.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Position requires IA Technical Level I certification be attained within 6 months of assignment to the position and maintained thereafter.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a SECRET clearance.

Customer Service-coordinate network security requirements with customers to ensure they are met. Oral Communication-inform management of progress toward meeting network security objectives. Problem Solving-conduct risk and vulnerability assessments of planned and installed information systems to identify vulnerabilities. AND Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1) installing and configuring hardware and software on servers to include troubleshooting complex systems problems; 2) creating and maintaining user accounts; 3) implementing plans for domain and server consolidation; 4) Installing, testing such equipment as servers, microcomputers, printers, scanners, etc and 5) optimizing the functionality of networks and systems, and diagnosing and recovering failed systems. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11). You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Database AdministrationInformation AssuranceOperating SystemsSystem Administration Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-11).
