About the Position: This position is a DOD Cyber Excepted Service (CES) personnel system position in the Excepted Service under 10 USC 1599f. Employees occupying CES positions are in the Excepted Service and must adhere to U.S. Code, Title 10, as well as Department of Defense Instruction 1400.25. This position is located at the 7th Signal Command, 106th Signal Brigade, 56th Signal Battalion - Miami, FL.

Duties

Serve as a systems administrator (SA) on multiple enterprise information systems running Microsoft Windows Server and Linux operating systems (OS). Manage accounts and role-based access to systems and equipment and administers associated system passwords. Ensure the rigorous application of information security/information assurance/cybersecurity policies, principles, and practices. Implement system security procedures and network intrusion and detection monitoring tools specified by local or command directive. Monitor the performance, capacity, availability, serviceability, and recoverability of installed systems. Optimize system and application performance and recommends additional components to improve overall systems performance. Manage the installation and integration of system patches, updates, and enhancements. Conduct system testing and preventative maintenance, ensuring compliance with the organization's CM process.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Three year trial/probationary period may be required.
  • Incumbent of this position must be able to obtain and maintain Top Secret security clearance eligibility with access to sensitive compartmented information (SCI).
  • Incumbent of this position must pass urinalysis screening for illegal drug use prior to appointment and periodically thereafter according to AR 600-85, Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Program.
  • Incumbent of this position must maintain a valid driver's license and operate a government vehicle.
  • Incumbent of this position must be willing and able to work overtime, holidays, or weekends and to be on call based on mission needs.
  • Incumbent of this position must be willing and able to travel for duty (TDY) up to 10% of the time.
  • Incumbent of this position must pass a pre-employment physical examination due to lifting requirement of up to 25 pounds.

Specialized experience would be demonstrated by performing systems administration of multiple enterprise information systems running Microsoft Windows Server and/or Linux operating systems, to include providing technical guidance and assistance on system design, implementation, maintenance, and operation; managing accounts and role-based access; and controlling service accounts for commercial solutions for classified (CSfC) enterprise environments; Experience in information security/information assurance, including implementing system security procedures, monitoring network intrusion and detection, mitigating vulnerabilities, and developing plans of action and milestones (POA&Ms) for all systems; Experience in performance and optimization of systems, including monitoring system performance, capacity, availability, and recoverability, optimizing system and application performance, installing and maintaining software, and resolving hardware and software problems; and Experience in configuration management (CM) process, including managing the installation and integration of system patches and updates, maintaining systems configuration, documenting system baselines and modifications, and conducting system testing and preventative maintenance. The specialized experience must include, or be supplemented by, information technology related experience (paid or unpaid experience and/or completion of specific, intensive training, as appropriate) which demonstrates each of the four competencies, as defined: (1) Attention to Detail - Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail. Examples of IT-related experience demonstrating this competency include: completing thorough and accurate work independently, even in the most difficult or stressful situations; occasionally reviewing work completed by others. (2) Customer Service - Works with clients and customers (that is, any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work unit produces, including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services. Examples of IT-related experience demonstrating this competency include: resolving routine and non-routine problems, questions, or complaints; developing and maintaining strong, mutually supportive working relationships with customers; conducting evaluation of support to determine quality of services and customer satisfaction, and recommending procedural changes based on customer need or changes in policy and/or regulation. (3) Oral Communication - Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately.
