About the Position: Fort Drum, the home of the 10th Mountain Division (Light Infantry), is located in Northern New York, a historically unique and geographically beautiful area, offering bountiful outdoor recreational opportunities from hunting and fishing to winter sports of all types. Fort Drum is approximately 30 miles from Canada, with the Great Lakes to the west, the Adirondack Mountains to the east, and the St. Lawrence River and Thousand Islands in between.
Duties
Serve as a Shift Leader, an assistant to the Guard Shift Supervisor.
Conduct first responder emergency recall and immediate response to active shooter and other situations such as terrorist threat and national emergencies.
Monitor work in progress to ensure supervisor's instructions on work sequence procedures are met. Makes note of work not meeting established requirements and refers problem matters to the supervisor.
Detect and report violations of laws, policies and procedures.
Confiscate unauthorized or otherwise controlled items and detain those suspected of criminal or other illegal activity until law enforcement officials arrive.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- IAW AR 190-56, requirements of Individual Reliability Program apply. Employee and prospective employee of this job are expected to maintain a high standard of conduct.
- IAW AR 600-85, a DA Form 5019 Condition of Employment must be assigned for mandatory drug testing. Drug testing designated position. Individual agrees to submit to a urinalysis on a random/recurring basis, in accordance with (IAW) AR 600-85.
- Shift work is required. Hours of work encompass fluctuating tours of duty to include evenings, nights, weekends and holidays. Overtime may be required as directed and is subject to recall for periods of emergency overtime.
- Must undergo and pass annual medical exams of physical, emotional and mental stability.
- Must be trained and maintain current required certifications in CPR techniques and must know first aid.
- Must be fully qualified to operate a government vehicle. Must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license. Loss of license may result in removal from the position.
- Must wear the Department of the Army Security Guard (DASG) uniform IAW AR 190-56, maintain a high state of appearance and hygiene.
- LAUTENBERG AMENDMENT: Must meet the requirements under the Lautenberg Amendment/Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968.
- This position has been designated "MISSION ESSENTIAL". In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations; the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
- This position has a requirement to lift up to 45 lbs in the regular performance of duties.
- Required to maintain physical conditioning and pass an annual physical agility test (PAT). Failure to meet the standards after the second attempt within a ninety-day period will result in separation.
- Temporary Duty travel (TDY) may be required up to 5% of the time.
- Must be proficient in the use of assigned firearms/weapons, pass an initial qualification, and must qualify semi-annually thereafter in the use of assigned firearms/weapons.
- Must successfully complete security guard training, including obtain and maintain certifications in operating various electronic equipment and sensors.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-06 grade level or above in the Federal service which includes: (1) Authenticate identification through use of electronic Personnel Access Control Systems, ID cards/badges, biometric automated record and/or verbal questioning; (2) Lead subordinates guard training to apply procedures to secure facilities/property/personnel against unauthorized access and suspicious activities; (3) Participate in first responder emergency response to active shooter and emergency situations such as terrorist threats; and (4) Confiscate unauthorized or controlled items, and detain those suspected of criminal or other illegal activity until law enforcement officials arrive.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-06).
