About the Position: Fort Drum, the home of the 10th Mountain Division (Light Infantry), is located in Northern New York, a historically unique and geographically beautiful area, offering bountiful outdoor recreational opportunities from hunting and fishing to winter sports of all types. Fort Drum is approximately 30 miles from Canada, with the Great Lakes to the west, the Adirondack Mountains to the east, and the St. Lawrence River and Thousand Islands in between.

Duties

Responsible for protection of government and personal property; control of access of personnel and vehicles to the installation; support of the implementation of emergency plans; and patrolling of restricted and limited access areas. Makes decisions according to the nature of perceived threat, as from demonstrators or other organized subversive actions, by the nature of hazards imposed by local terrain, and/or weather that affect lighting and communications. Capable of briefing the guard force on enforcing the applicable federal, state, and local laws to include special/general orders, policies and regulations. Gives advice, counsel, or instruction to employees on both work and administrative matters. Responsible for inspection of private or commercial vehicles entering or leaving the installation. May be required to detain violators of laws, rules, and regulations and turn them over to Federal or civil police or other law enforcement officers for arrest. Accurately and timely fills out reports on incidents of theft or accident. Receives and reviews daily reports from subordinates and ensures the correction of reported irregularities.

Requirements

  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter.
  • This position requires the incumbent to wear the prescribed uniform.
  • The duties of this position meet the criteria for compliance with Federal and Department of the Army Drug Free Workplace Programs.
  • This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.
  • Due to the nature of this position, employees are required to work both planned and unscheduled overtime.
  • This position requires certification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation with Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) training.
  • This position requires the employee to use personal protective equipment provided by the employer.
  • This position requires the incumbent to obtain and maintain state certification for operation the National Crime Information Center database terminal.
  • This position requires the incumbent to maintain the requirements of the Individual Reliability Program in accordance with Army Regulation 190-56.
  • This position requires the incumbent to be proficient in the use of assigned firearms/weapons, pass an initial qualification, and must qualify semi-annually thereafter.
  • The incumbent of this position must successfully complete Security Guard training.
  • This position requires the incumbent to pass entry level and annual re-certification of standard Army physical fitness/agility test.
  • Must obtain and maintain applicable certifications in operating various electronic equipment and sensors.
  • Must not have any medical condition that precludes the wearing of a chemical protective mask and over garments.
  • Must be able to perform as a member of the installation's overall security response capability.
  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
  • This position has been designated "Mission Essential". In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations
  • This position is supervisory as defined by the Office of Personnel Management's (OPM) General Schedule Supervisory Guide (GSSG). A one year probation to assess your ability to perform supervisory duties is required unless previously completed.
