This position is located at Crownpoint Service Unit, Division of Nursing, Crownpoint, NM. This is the Nurse, Clinical Coach Coordinator position. Incumbent reports to the unit Supervisor.

Duties

The purpose of this position is to provide a structured clinical coach preceptor program to support delivery of orientation that ensures new nurses receive adequate preparation to function independently and to facilitate their transition to assigned departments/units. Facilitates the transition of a preceptee to assigned department/unit by providing an atmosphere conducive to the professional growth of both the coordinator and the preceptee. Maintains open communication channels between staff members, Unit Nurse Executive/Nurse Supervisor, Staff Development and the Education Department; maintains and further develops the professional integrity and self-esteem of the new nurse and to individualize orientation based on identified learning needs. Assesses the preceptee's past experience to determine learning needs and learning styles. Develops goals and objectives progressively in collaboration with the preceptee. Assists the preceptee in organizing and prioritizing. Provides feedback to the preceptee on a daily basis. Evaluates and documents the preceptee's progress toward fulfilling designated goals and competencies weekly. As a role model for the preceptee, adheres to policies and procedures when performing job responsibilities. Collaborates with the unit Nurse Executive/Nurse Supervisor, Education Coordinator, Staff Development and other resource people weekly to evaluate progress and address any training issues. Provides a written evaluation at the conclusion of the orientation process. Supports Partnership Councils or Self Governance Models. Supports and participates in development of the 14 Forces of Magnetism. Participates with the hospital Performance Improvement Coordinator to assure compliance with Joint Commission Standards. Ensures that all federal guidelines, Nurse Practice Acts and all other applicable standards are met. Assists with patient care in the assigned department or unit. Utilizes the nursing process, provides skilled and comprehensive nursing care to patients. Coordinates patient care activities and support activities to assure smooth facility operation during weekend, day, evening, or night tours with the charge nurse, Unit Nurse Executive/Nurse Supervisor. Creates and maintains an organizational environment for open communications, trust and respect. Collaborates effectively with members of multidisciplinary teams in assessing, planning and implementing nursing intervention in management of patient's health care. Participates in the Nursing Management Council. Possesses qualities of adaptability and diplomacy for effectiveness in establishing good, interpersonal relationships and the respect of associates. Qualifications

To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. NOTE: Employees currently assigned to positions in this occupational series as of September 2017 will be considered to have met the basic requirements for the position occupied. BASIC REQUIREMENT(S): Education: A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. Degree from Foreign Nursing School: Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools. Licensure: For all grade levels and positions, applicants must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination. In addition, they must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, The District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:GS-11: In addition to the above requirements, applicants must meet one of the following requirements: Successful completion of a PHD or equivalent doctoral degree from a professional nursing educational program or related medical science field; or At least one full year of professional nursing experience (equivalent to the GS-9 grade level) and possession of a diploma, associate degree, bachelor's degree, or master's degree from a professional nursing educational program. Experience: The work experience must have equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. At the GS-9 and above grade level, many positions may require experience in a specialty area of nursing. Examples of experience include: Experience conducting in-service training to health care workers on topics, such as, performance improvement, policies and procedures; have performed needs analysis to plan and develop a nursing education program; evaluating education as it relates to preceptorship and have worked with hospital regulatory agencies. Time In Grade Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP). You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.
