As the Prosthetic Clerk of the Prosthetic and Sensory Aids Service (PSAS) at the Southeast Louisiana Veterans Healthcare Center and its outpatient clinics. This position has a high degree of visibility throughout the medical center and the public as a result of direct patient care contact with the veteran population, many of whom are severely disabled. A display of a positive image on behalf of the VA is critical and required.

Duties

Schedules patients for assigned Orthotic and Prosthetic clinics and sends notifications of appointments to the patient. Completes and utilizes all Orthotic and Prosthetic system software required for device product delivery. Uses office automation equipment; computer, word processor, facsimile machines, ADP equipment (keyboard and visual display), calculator, copiers, and telephones to effectively communicate with others. Maintains all aspects of the orthotic device Finished Room for patient devices. Prepares any necessary paperwork for completion by clinic practitioners or Prosthetic Representative(s) Answers calls; assists with telephone inquiries or directs to appropriate staff member. Submit request for quote forms to contractors and vendors to obtain pricing. Assists purchasing agents and clinical staff with packaging and mailing out supplies to Veterans' residence. Receives, reviews, and distributes in-coming mail to appropriate personnel. Receives Veterans at the front desk and determines what is needed. Work Schedule: Monday-Friday 7:30am-4:00pm, subject to change based on the needs of the facility. Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 12/01/2023. Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-05 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-04. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment. You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below: Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-04 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Skill in the use of a personal computer, typewriter, copier, scanner, fax machine and other office equipment. Effectively use the following software: MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Internet Explorer, PowerPoint Skilled in the use of the organization and function of the programs to effectively refer visitors, telephone calls and mail. Organize data, supplies, file to achieve accurate storage and facilitate retrieval. Use of office protocol and methods of effective communication to coordinate the day-to-day routine of the program area. Communicate effectively (verbally and in writing) with a variety of staff, patients and visitors. Recognize sensitive and confidential issues and to manage these with utmost discretion and diplomacy, and have knowledge of the strict confidentiality maintained for the program. OR, Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have Substitution of 4 years of education above high school (transcripts required). . OR, Combination: Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level. Combination of Specialized experience as described above and education in excess of the first 60 semester hours (i.e., beyond the second year) is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement. You will be rated on the following Competencies for this position: Administration and ManagementCommunicationComputer SkillsTechnical Credibility Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Physical Requirements: The work of the incumbent is primarily sedentary. There is some walking, standing, bending and carrying of items up to 25 lbs. such as equipment and supplies, files equipment provided to beneficiaries within Prosthetic & Sensory Aids.
