This position is located in the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Office of the Secretary, Family Reunification Task Force (FRTF). The primary purpose of this position is to serve as the Director of Family Unity. As such, the incumbent exercises second level supervisory and managerial authorities over the organization and serves as supervisor over a staff. The incumbent is the principal representative and advisor regarding planning, directing, and managing the operations.

Duties

As a DIRECTOR OF FAMILY UNITY, GS-0301-15, your typical work assignments may include: Working in collaboration with components and head office to develop, draft, and operationalize policies to preserve family unity throughout DHS border and immigration processes. Providing support and advice to DHS leadership, staff, and components on issues related to the Department's immigration and child and/or family welfare authorities, roles, and responsibilities as set forth in law and policy. Performing analysis and research, to include preparing memoranda, guidance documents, and other materials, often in collaboration with attorneys from across the Department and from other federal departments and agencies. Drafting or reviewing correspondence, reports, memoranda, testimony, Federal Register notices, directives, legislation, guidance, and other documents related to the Department's immigration and family and/or child separations. Representing the Department as a subject matter expert on matters related to family and/or child separations during immigration. Qualifications

Specialized Experience: To qualify for the GS-15 grade level you must possess one year of specialized experience at the GS-14 grade level performing duties such as: 1) Significant experience providing advice and support on immigration laws and border policy relevant to the Department's immigration missions and that are of significant interest to the public and Congress; 2) Experience in management or supervision of people or issues and otherwise maintaining the good order of a high-performing office or work unit; 3) Experience with developing, conceiving, planning, and implementing policies and guidelines affecting broad, emerging, and/or critical agency priorities specific to immigration law or border policies; 4) Demonstrated experience with establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with various high-level individuals including senior Department officials, other legislative and executive agencies and distinguished members of the public; 5) Demonstrated application of the outstanding professional judgment and maturity necessary to brief and advise Department officials on sensitive matters; 6) It is preferred, but not required, that applicants be a graduate of a law school accredited by the American Bar Association (ABA). All qualifications and eligibility requirements must be met by the closing date of the announcement. Time-in-grade: Current General Schedule (GS) federal employees, and those that have served in GS positions within the last 52 weeks, must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade, or a combination of the next lower grade level and an equivalent band in the federal service by the closing of this announcement. Note: Current or former Federal employees MUST submit a copy of their SF-50 Form which shows competitive service appointment ("position occupied" block 34 on the SF-50 should show a "1"), tenure group (block 24 should show a 1 or 2), grade, and salary.
