About the Position: Position may be filled as a temporary promotion or detail NTE 1 year by a current permanent Army employee. Temporary promotions or details may be extended up to a maximum of five years and may be made permanent without further competition.
POSITION MAY BE FILLED FOR MULTIPLE SHIFTS TO INCLUDE FIRST OR THIRD SHIFT.
Duties
Utilize a full range of operations on most types of conventional machine tools and their attachments.
Calculate mathematical computations and apply handbook formulas for needed dimensions.
Interpret complex, multi-view blueprints, work sheets, and/or sketches.
Laying out the tools used to machine parts.
Utilize various bench-mounted and hand-held non-powered tools to include files, drills, reamers and buffers.
Apply knowledge of various metals and other materials to produce desired cuts and finishes.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Successfully complete and pass a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Machinist without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform common Machinist duties to include operating machine tools such as lathes, boring mills, milling machines, grinding machines and operating computer numerical control (CNC) machines to perform specific machining operation in the machining of castings, forgings, or other raw stocks made of various metals, metal alloys, and other materials. I can use a variety of auxiliary machine tool attachments. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.
To meet the basic eligibility, you must receive at least two points on the screen-out element indicated above and must have an average of two points on all the job elements listed below. PHYSICAL EFFORTS: Requires standing, stooping, bending, and reaching. Frequently handles objects weighing up to 10 pounds and occasionally objects weighing as much as 40 pounds; however, hoists, handtrucks, lifts, and other workets are available to assist with heavier items.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Works inside in a well lighted, heated, ventilated shop that is usually noisy and dirty. There is a danger to skin and eyes from flying metal chips, abrasive particles and hot metal; possible skin irritation from contact with coolants, lubricants and abrasive compounds, and danger to the fingers, hands, and other parts of the body from cutting tools, grinding wheels, rotating work pieces and moving parts of machines. Wears safety glasses, safety shoes and other safety apparel and equipment as required.
