About the Position: Incumbent will serve as a Machine Tool Operator. Duties

Operates a Computer Numerical Control machine (in the automatic mode) to cut raw rubber. Utilize hand tools to perform minor machine adjustments to ensure system functionality. Perform minor machine maintenance such as selecting proper coolants and lubricants for automated machines. Control machine feed and speeds utilizing different cutting tools for successive operations. Utilize various standard machine attachments such as rotary tables, and universal milling attachments to meet job specifications. Set up and operate a variety of machines, such as lathes, radial drills and milling machines, to fabricate various workpieces.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.
  • Due to the nature of this position, employees are required to work both planned and unscheduled overtime.

I can use a variety of auxiliary machine tool attachments, determine speeds, feeds, coolants, lubricants to be used. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. To meet the basic eligibility, you must receive at least two points on the screen-out element indicated above and must have an average of two points on all the job elements listed below. Your application will be further evaluated to determine if you meet the best qualified cut-off for referral to the selecting official. Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal SupervisionAbility To Use Hand Tools for Machine ShopAbility To Use Shop DrawingsKnowledge of MetalsMeasurement and LayoutOperation of Machine ToolsTechnical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic) Physical Efforts: Work requires standing, stooping, bending, and reaching. Frequently handles objects weighing up to 10 pounds and occasionally objects weighing up to 40 pounds. Hoists, hand trucks, lifts and other workers are available to assist with heavier items. Working Conditions: Work is performed inside well-lighted, adequately heated and ventilated shop area. Shop is usually noisy and dirty and there is constant danger to the skin and eyes from flying metal chips, abrasive articles and hot metal. Subject to skin irritation from contact with coolants, lubricants and abrasive compounds. There is constant danger to fingers, hands, and other body parts from cutting tools, grinding wheels, rotating work pieces, etc. Safety glasses are mandatory and safety shoes are necessary.
