This position is located at the Environmental Management section of Facilities Management Service of a VA Sierra Nevada Health Care System, in Reno, NV. The incumbent is under the immediate supervision of the Housekeeping Supervisor. The position performs both janitorial and custodial services in all assigned work areas as needed.
Duties
The Housekeeping Aid executes a full range of housekeeping activities in an assigned building or section of a building which involves cleaning and protective maintenance of floors, walls, ceilings, windows, furniture, fixtures, sinks, commodes, urinals, bathtubs, showers, and equipment. The incumbent may be assigned to any tour and may be required to work in various designated areas during any one tour of duty. Typically, the incumbent works independently with general supervision, or works with a team and is responsible for the full-range of cleaning duties in an assigned area throughout the hospital including patient care units, offices, community areas and linen rooms.
Incumbent of this position performs routine and specialized tasks in completing sanitation duties in critical care areas such as then Cardiac Care Unit (CCU), Intensive Care Units(MICU&SICU).
Step-down Unit or Operating Rooms; as assigned. Routine tasks include, but are not limited to; waste removal, dusting, polishing, dust- mopping, damp mopping; cleaning of urinals, sinks, commodes; restocking supplies such as towels or tissues, cleaning equipment used, performing periodic maintenance checks, etc. Specialized tasks include, but are not limited to; isolation cleaning, terminal cleaning, performing aseptic cleaning techniques, etc.
Incumbent must have a thorough knowledge of aseptic techniques to accomplish cleaning duties in critical care areas to meet minimum sanitation standards set for these areas. He/she must be capable of operating all equipment used as tools in the trade such as; buffers, vacuum cleaners, etc. He/she must practice and set an example of following all safety regulations and practices.
Incumbent must be familiar with all cleaning agents utilized in cleaning processes to obtain maximum effectiveness of products. He/she must be capable of readily conforming to newly accepted methods, procedures or techniques.
Work Schedule: Monday thru Friday from 6:00am to 2:30pm

Physical Requirements: The position demands continuous walking, standing, stooping, kneeling, pulling, and pushing. The work requires the occasional use of heavy powered cleaning equipment (e.g., wall washers, industrial type buffers) weighing over 50 pounds. The duties necessitate considerable dexterity, hand, foot, and eye coordination, and concentration as well as visual acuity to see dirt, dust and debris.
