The position is located in the Environmental Management Service (EMS) in the VA Sierra Nevada Health Care System. The incumbent must possess the skills and knowledge to supervise, plan, direct, and administer housekeeping and sanitation activities of assigned operational teams of the Environmental Care Section. The position performs both supervisory and actual work duties in janitorial and custodial services as needed.
Duties
Incumbent has the supervisory responsibility of both RME housekeepers and other housekeepers that could total approximately 30-35 wage grade employees (WG-1, WG-2, and WG-3 Housekeeping Aids) who perform cleaning and sanitary duties and a WG 7 Pest Controller. Duties are performed in the various Medical Center buildings, which are comprised of administrative areas, offices, locker rooms, laboratories, operating rooms, general and specialized medical areas, patient care areas, specialty clinics, pathology, pharmacies, community living centers, and psychiatric wards. Additionally, incumbent would supervise up to 3 Compensated Work Therapy (CWT) patients.
Incumbent plans and schedules daily, weekly, and monthly work schedules and assignments for employees to ensure all areas in the hospital are covered and the hospital is clean and infection free. Establishes deadlines and priorities on the basis of general work schedules, methods, and procedures of the team. Determines how many assignments can be done concurrently or which must be delayed; Decides the number of employees required to accomplish the work, and the availability of materials and associated equipment needed. Schedules work and reassigns personnel to meet emergency situations (e.g., excessive absenteeism, unexpected resignations, or unusual situations which occur.
Establishes deadlines and priorities on the basis of general work schedules, methods, and procedures of the team. Determines how many assignments can be done concurrently or which must be delayed; decides the number of employees required accomplishing the work and the availability of materials and associated equipment needed. Enters employees work time and monitors and responds to emails. Completes annual appraisals for all employees assigned. Orders supplies and equipment by entering a 2237. Routinely assists in the maintenance of current and accurate records including but not limited to: CMR inventory, employee training and daily reports and inspections. Must have a working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
Work Schedule: Full Time, Monday - Friday, 6:00am - 2:30pm.

Physical Requirements: The position entails prolonged walking, standing, bending, stooping, stretching and lifting. Incumbent may be required to lift items up to 40 pounds. Incumbent may occasionally be required to work on small step ladders. Work may require working on hands and knees for some items. The physical demands of the position will be that normally required of a housekeeping aid. Some· heavy lifting (equipment and materials) and movement of furniture will be required along with the stamina to perform physical labor. Continuous walking, standing, stooping, bending, lifting, and arduous physical effort are required in the performance of manual tasks such as washing walls above five feet and operating powered equipment over extended periods of time.
Working Conditions: Working conditions such as ventilation and environment are satisfactory. Incumbent may be subject to occasional noise, skin irritations, cuts, and bruises. Most work will be done inside a climate controlled hospital building. Incumbent will be exposed to odors, blood, and other body fluids and will have potential contact with contagious diseases found in a hospital environment. The incumbent will be provided all required PPE necessary and follow Blood Borne Pathogens (BBPs) Guidelines.
