The Smithsonian Institution is a diverse museum and research complex dedicated to the increase and diffusion of knowledge. This position is located in Smithsonian Institution, Office of Protection Services. The Office of Protection Services is responsible for overseeing, a large museum/complex law enforcement and security program, and leading and providing protection throughout the Smithsonian Institution.
Duties
The Sergeant will manage subordinate supervisors the physical security program for one or more SI facilities. Key functional areas include security program planning, policy, policy and program developments.

Qualifications
Experience: You qualify for this position if you have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-06 level in the Federal service or comparable pay band system related to the work of this position. This specialized experience is defined as: 1) Detecting, investigating and resolving crimes and other incidents that are beyond the scope of requirements for subordinates; 2) Following security rules and regulations to make immediate action to deter theft, vandalism or any form of danger; and 3) Communicating orally and in writing to convey factual information in a clear and logical manner.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.Part-time and/or unpaid experience related to this position will be considered to determine the total number of years and months of experience.
