This position is located in the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), United States Coast Guard (USCG), Deputy Commandant for Operations (DCO), Vessels and Facilities Operating Standards Division (CG-OES-2), Washington, DC.

Duties

This position serves a General Engineer, responsible for the providing technical recommendations, advice and guidance to high-ranking officials, managers, other engineers and marine inspectors of the Coast Guard.

  • One year probationary period may be required.
  • This position requires a NACI clearance.

Qualifications

BASIC EDUCATION REQUIRMENT: Degree: Engineering. To be acceptable, the program must: (1) lead to a bachelor’s degree in a school of engineering with at least one program accredited by ABET; or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics. OR Combination of education and experience AND In addition to basic requirement above: Applicants must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 level in the Federal service. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work. Specialized experience must include: The applicant must meet ALL of the conditions below. Regulating waterfront facility operations; AND Emerging alternative fuels, such as, liquefied/compressed natural gas, ammonia, or hydrogen; AND Working independently while addressing complex regulatory and policy matters. National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. The Office of Personnel management (OPM) must authorize employment offers made to current or former political appointees. If you are currently, or have been within the last 5 years, a political Schedule A, Schedule, C, Non-career SES or Presidential Appointee employee in the Executive Branch, you must disclose this information to the Human Resources Office.
