This position is part of the Plant Operations, Government Publishing Office in Washington , District of Columbia.
Duties
Serves as a resource to journeyperson Bookbinders who set up, operate, and adjust binding equipment.
Troubleshoots the Adhesive Binder Replace belts, clamps, clinchers, glue pots, suction hoses, over feeders, conveyors, an trimmers.
Replaces belts, pushers, and clamps in the 3-knife trimmer.
Troubleshoots Casemaker Machine. Replaces tape on cylinder rollers, and replaces backlining knives and belts.
Identifies and coordinates major repair problems with Engineering Service.
Requirements
- U.S. Citizenship is Required.
- Males born after 12/03/59 must be registered for Selective Service.
- Selectee may be required to serve a one year probationary period
- Selectee must be able to obtain and maintain a Suitability/Nonsensitive security clearance.
- Physical - Effort: Duties require prolonged standing, walking, stooping, bending, stretching, reaching above the shoulder, and climbing. A moderate amount of hand, wrist, and arm movements is involved.
- Physical - Effort: Duties require Moderate lifting is required for objects weighing up to 80 pounds. Incumbent is required to have good eye-hand coordination and proficient vision.
- Working Conditions: Duties are performed in a well-lighted, heated and ventilated area.
- Working Conditions: The incumbent is exposed to low frequency noise generated by bindery equipment. The work is performed indoors, with no exposure to excessive heat or cold.
- Selectee must successfully pass all preemployment requirements prior to appointment.
Qualifications
To qualify for the Head Operator, KB -4402-00, you must meet the following requirements:
Applicants must have experience and/or training of sufficient scope and quality to independently perform the duties typically required of a Head Operator.
Applicants must meet the following SCREENOUT, Element #1 Ability to do the work of a Head Operator without more than normal supervision to be considered for this position. Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the online assessment questionnaire. If your knowledge and ability in the SCREEN OUT ELEMENT below is not sufficient, you will receive no further consideration. The screen-out element for this position is:
Screen Out-Job Element #1 Ability to do the work of a Head Operator without more than normal supervision.
The duties for this position include possessing the following knowledge, skills, ability, training or experience: 1) possessing journeyman bookbinder level knowledge of procedures, processes and methods related to binding operations, 2) the ability to read and interpret instructions and specifications related to folder and inserter operations and 3) ability to perform all functions required to maintain high-speed production equipment.
