This is an Air Reserve Technician (ART) position. ARTs are part of the regular career civil service and enjoy all the benefits granted to Federal employees in the competitive civil service. In addition, ARTs are required to maintain their active membership in the AF Reserve unit where assigned. ARTs receive on average one weekend of military training per month. Duties

The primary purpose of this position is to develop, modify and apply inspection techniques such as ultrasonic, eddy current, radiographic or liquid penetrant on parts, components or complete systems for which procedures/processes have not been developed. Trains reservists in the accomplishment of tasks set forth herein. DUTY 1: Using the ultrasonic-eddy current processes, performs inspections of aircraft, engine, missile, ground support equipment, etc., parts and components, support equipment structural members, components, parts, and other materials for which inspection procedures and/or accountability standards are inadequate or not available. DUTY 2: Conducts industrial radiography (x-ray) tests on aircraft components and parts for which procedures/processes have not been developed. DUTY 3: Ultrasonic eddy, current and magnaflux/zyglo inspection duties. DUTY 4: Administers the Spectrometric Oil Analysis Program (SOAP). DUTY 5: Utilizes safety practices and procedures and complies with security regulations, directives, and policies. DUTY 6: Prepares effective training plans to maximize Reserve training. DUTY 7: Certifies work produced under the USAF Technical Order Program.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-3700 Metal Processing Family. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. Ability to follow oral and written instructions. 2. Skill in the use of standard hand and power tools of the industrial radiology trade. 3. Ability to read and interpret a variety of technical data such as schematic diagrams, blueprints and technical orders relating to the electronics trade. 4. Knowledge of and ability to use radiology systems, equipment or accessories. 5. Knowledge of basic shop mathematics or handbook formulae to calculate basic values or specifications. 6. Ability to operate a computer. 7. Ability to convert instructions into appropriate computer language(s), as necessary. 8. Skill in the selection and use of testing equipment. 9. Ability to use a variety of test and measurement equipment. 10. Ability to calibrate equipment used in the industrial radiology trade. 11. Ability to locate component/part deficiencies and recommend resolution. 12. Knowledge of safety and security requirements as outlined in applicable standards, regulations and technical orders. 13. Knowledge of tool, equipment, and materials accounting and security. 14. Knowledge of USAF Technical Order Program and its procedures. 15. Working closely with others. Working alone. OTHER SIGNIFICANT FACTS: 1. This is an Air Reserve Technician (ART) enlisted position. The incumbent is required to meet and maintain Air Force Reserve requirements. Work schedule will be aligned to allow the incumbent to fully participate in unit training assemblies. The incumbent's regular assignments are primarily ART duties; however, the incumbent may also be assigned non-ART duties, generally not to exceed 30 percent of total responsibilities. 2. May conduct OJT and/or classroom training. 3. Also works with engineering, quality, and laboratory personnel in establishing new testing procedures, providing practical technical assistance based on knowledge and experience. 4. Completes Oil Breakdown Rate Analysis (COBRA): Performs COBRA inspections of aircraft engine oil samples to determine the rate of lubricant degradation. 5. Establishes and monitors trend analysis of the applicable engine. 6. Maintains an organized work area and practices good housekeeping. 6. Ensures tools are properly marked, calibrated (If necessary), and are secured when area is unattended. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social).
