This Laundry Machine Worker position is located at the VISN Consolidated Laundry, which is located on the Brockton Campus of the Boston Healthcare System. This position is full-time at 40 hours per week.
Duties
Major Duties include, but are not limited to:
Classifies soiled linens into the proper classification as follows:
Flatwork (sheets and pillowcases)
Blankets (thermal and bath)
Fitted Sheets
Under Pads
Pajamas
Bibs
Johnnies
I.V. Gowns
Bags
Isolation Gowns
Bath Towels
Wash Cloths
Robes
Specialty items for each facility
Heavy Soil
Mops
O.R. Items
Patient Clothing
Feeds flatwork into the flatwork ironing system, folds, stacks all finished rough dry items; folding may be done by hand or small piece folder.
Sorts and inspects heavy soil linens after processing through washer/extractors.
Separates into stain and reclaim.
Operates sani-trux cart wash to disinfect carts after transporting soiled linens.
May Assist shipper, if necessary.
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 7:00 am to 3:30 pm

Interchange Agreements with Other Merit System: Employees who occupy medical or medical-related positions and were appointed under 38 U.S.C. 4701(1) or (3) [formerly 38 U.S.C. 4104 (1) and (3)] must be serving in a full-time position without time limit and have served continuously for at least one year in this other merit system to be eligible to convert to the Title 5 System. Some exceptions to this rule may apply if you have previously acquired tenure under a Title 5 appointment.

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: Work requires long periods of standing on hard surfaces and heavy physical effort in removing wet laundry by hand from washers and lifting bundles of dirty laundry from trucks, frequently weighing 35 to 50 pounds or more. Physical effort is required in pushing carts of laundry, sorting, and weighing.
