This Supervisory Laundry Worker position is located in the Enviromental Management Department of the VA Healthcare Systems located at the Brockton, MA campus. This position is full-time at 40 hours per week.

Duties

The duties of this position include, but are not limited to: Plans the use of workers, equipment and other material based on the day to day basis with time limits and any special instructions to the personnel on the laundry shifts. Insures work plans, policies and procedures are followed by subordinates based on past practices, priorities or emerging problems. Monitors workload and accomplishment of assigned targets. If problems are encountered requests authority from his/her supervisor to adjust workload schedules, priorities, use of overtime to meet schedules, etc. Assigns work to individuals, explains work requirements, methods, and procedures. Instructs in new procedures and provides direction or help when employees encounter unusual problems. Observes work operations and resolves anticipated problems by reassigning work, coordinating work with other units or personnel, seeing that adequate supplies are available and maintenance or repairs are affected to keep production schedules on time. Reviews work in progress or at completion for meeting standards in quality, timeliness, and quantity. Coordinates work delays due to breakdowns or other unforeseen conditions with supervisors and other impacted units. Makes minor adjustments in procedures and sequence of operations in order to mitigate problems and improve efficiency. Discusses changes in standards or prescribed procedures with his/her supervisor. The incumbent counsels employees related to job performance both for improvement and behavioral issues and initiates disciplinary proposals to Management if necessary. Recommends or makes performance ratings, training requests, and changes in performance standards. Provides training on new work methods, equipment, or material usage. Adjusts informal complaints and refers unresolved to his/her supervisor, He/she promotes special emphasis programs. Works with higher graded supervisors in recommending improvements of work methods, organizational/layout structures, and duties assigned to the position he/she supervises to improve operational efficiencies and respond to technical advancements. Work Schedule: Monday-Friday 7:00am-3:30pm Telework: Not Authorized. Virtual: This is not a virtual position. This is not a Bargaining Unit Position. This position is covered by locality-based comparability pay. Current employees must submit copies of their most recent SF50, (Notice of Personnel Action). The SF-50 must identify the position title, series, grade, step, tenure and type of service (competitive or excepted). In some cases, more than one Sf-50 may be required to show a higher grade previously held.-This position is in the Competitive service. Time-in-Grade Restriction: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also met time-in-grade requirements. The grade may have been in any occupation but must have been held in the Federal service. Veteran's preference does not apply for other current permanent Federal agency employees.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement. EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards. SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. Physical Requirements: The work is primarily sedentary; however, the position is required to participate on environment of care rounds, Internal and External Quality Reviews, and external auditor site visits; This may require long periods of standing, walking, and/or maneuvering around moving or otherwise hazardous equipment such as forklifts, pallet jacks, and cart washers.
