About the Position: The Military Entrance Processing Stations (MEPS) is a small organization with a mission critical to our national defense. Our job is to process applicants for all five services into the armed forces. The job is both challenging and rewarding. For most new military service members, processing through the MEPS is the first real exposure to a military operation. For that reason we seek, customer-oriented employees with a desire to serve their country in a meaningful way.
Duties
Manage applicant processing lists that record applicant receipt of breakfast, lunch, dinner, and lodging.
Greet and account for visitors/applicants in and out of the Military Entrance Processing Station (MEPS).
Question applicants to obtain and/or verify complete data required for final data processing of forms and records for entry into the military service.
Perform preventive maintenance on the fingerprint scanner, to include weekly calibration of equipment.
Use personal computers and Military Entrance Processing Station unique software programs to code and transcribed data from numerous source documents.
Operate a variety of office automation equipment including personal computers, facsimile machines, scanners, digital copiers, and industrial shredders.
Screen applicants records to ascertain that all necessary documents are present according to the requirements of each military service.
Provide identification and workload tags for applicants each day.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires the incumbent to work an occasional Saturday and/or shift work (work before 6:00a.m. or after 6:00p.m.).
- This position requires the incumbent to routinely work unscheduled overtime to accommodate fluctuation in workload based on daily mission requirements.
- Successful completion of applicable Military Health System (MHS) GENESIS Training is required in order to access the MHS GENESIS System within 30 days of on-boarding and/or as required.
- May require occasional travel up to 5%.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1) Utilizing computers for database management and/or word processing; 2) Maintaining paper and electronic files; 3) Reviewing and/or editing documents; AND 4) Providing information to callers and visitors. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04).
OR
Education: Four years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages.
Proficiency Required: This position requires a qualified typist. A qualified typist can type 40 words per minute based on a 5 minute sample with three or fewer errors.
