This position is located with the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Northwest Region,Regional Office, Division of Indian Services, Branch of Human Services in Portland, Oregon and Vancouver, Washington. Duties

Work under supervision of the Human Services Supervisory Social Worker Regional Social Worker in planning, developing, and managing the Indian Child Welfare Program. Maintain the administration and provide case management of Supervised Individual Indian Money (IIM) accounts for minors and adults. Review agency and contractor social casework records for compliance. Conduct on-site technical evaluation reviews for quality control in tribally operated and private contract childcare programs. Develop professional policy recommendations for placement procedures used in placement of abusive/neglected children in institutions for diagnosis, evaluating, care, education, or planning.

  • NOTE: TRAVEL AND RELOCATION EXPENSES WILL NOT BE AUTHORIZED. ANY RELOCATION EXPENSES ASSOCIATED WITH REPORTING FOR DUTY WILL BE THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE SELECTED EMPLOYEE.

Qualifications

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS: (OPM Operating Manual, Qualification Standards for Professional and Scientific Positions and Individual Occupational Requirements for GS-0185: Social Work Series). BASIC REQUIREMENTS: Degree: Social Work. Must fulfill all of the requirements for the MASTER'S DEGREE in social work in a school accredited by the Council on Social Work Education. ADDITIONAL EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: In addition to meeting the basic entry level qualification requirements, applicants must have the following: SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to perform successfully the duties of the position, and is typically in or related to the position to be filled. GS-11: In addition to meeting the basic education requirement, I have at least one (1) year of full-time specialized experience or the equivalent, comparable to at least the GS-9 in the Federal Service (obtained in either the public or private sector). This experience includes work involving: applying professional knowledge of the principles and practices of social work; providing direct services to individuals and families, and groups; educating or providing instruction, training, consultation and/or advice on social work related questions and services; interprets and applies specialized program knowledge and skill of the Social Services Program to beneficiaries; serve as a case manager of assigned cases; maintains a formalized case management system which documents the workflow of case services with individual case plan. (Your resume must support this experience.) OR EDUCATION: Three (3) years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree. GS-12: 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sector) which includes work involving applying practical knowledge of a wide range of social casework, family therapy, systems theory and community organization; direct provision of child welfare services, maintaining active agency participation in the varied advocacy and intervention programs and the coordination of and required cooperation with allied social service, health and other agencies; providing counseling services; developing and maintaining a formalized case management system which documents the workflow of case services with individual case plans; provides technical assistance on all aspects of social services programs and activities; and develops and supports program budget matters. One academic year of graduate education is considered to be the number of credits hours your graduate school has determined to represent one academic year of full-time study. Such study may have been performed on a full-time or part-time basis. If you cannot obtain your graduate school's definition of one year of graduate study, 18 semester hours (or 27 quarter hours) should be considered as satisfying the requirement for one year of full-time graduate study.

If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must send a Certificate of Foreign Equivalency with your transcript in order to receive credit for that education which shows the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
