The Suicide Prevention Coordinator is a Social Work Coordinator who will serve to facilitate implementation and coordination of suicide prevention strategies to help ensure that all appropriate measures are taken to prevent suicide in our Veteran population. This is accomplished through various strategies to include education, monitoring and coordination activities. The primary responsibilities of the Suicide Prevention Coordinator include monitoring a list of Veterans determined to be at high risk for self-harm and coordinating enhanced care when needed, providing education to all front line and clinical staff regarding safety planning with their patients, networking with community partners, providing programmatic guidance and oversight for the team of suicide prevention specialists, and providing timely and accurate responses to all action items regarding the Suicide Prevention Program.
Duties Include:
Responds to consults from the National Suicide Prevention Hotline
Develops and implements an ongoing education plan for providers
Assures that all of these Veterans have a 24-hour resource number to call
Provides referrals to VA medical and mental health treatment and to other VA services including VA benefits
Assesses high risk factors, acuity, and the need for services
Ability to serve Veterans who tend to have frequent and severe crises, or an inadequate community support network
Participates in the assignment of Veterans to treatment teams and programs
Develops working relationships with other organizations
Provides orientation and on-going training for interdisciplinary team members and conducts staff development programs for Social Work and Mental Health Services
Suicide Prevention Coordinator serves as a mentor to other Social Workers
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday; 7:30am to 4:00pm

Qualifications
Basic Requirements:
Education: Must have a Master's degree in Social Work (MSW) from a school of social work fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). Graduates of schools of social work that are in candidacy status do not meet this requirement until the school of social work is fully accredited. A doctoral degree in social work may not be substituted for the master's degree in social work. (TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED)
Licensure: Must be licensed or certified by a state at the advanced practice level at the GS-12 grade level. This includes an advanced generalist or clinical examination, unless they are grandfathered by the state in which they are licensed to practice at the advanced practice level (PROVIDE COPY)
IN ADDITION TO THE BASIC REQUIREMENTS YOU MUST MEET THE FOLLOWING GS-12 GRADE REQUIREMENTS:
EXPERIENCE: One year of experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level. Experience must demonstrate possession of advanced practice skills and judgment, demonstrating progressively more professional competency. Candidate may have certification or other post-master's degree training from a nationally recognized professional organization or university that includes a defined curriculum/course of study and internship, or equivalent supervised professional experience.
Licensure/Certification. Individuals assigned as social worker program coordinator must be licensed or certified at the advanced practice level, and must be able to provide supervision for licensure
AND
Applicants must also meet the Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities listed below:
Knowledge of program coordination and administration which includes consultation, negotiation, and monitoring.
Knowledge and ability to write policies, procedures, and/or practice guidelines for the program.
Ability to supervise multidisciplinary staff assigned to the program.
Skill in organizing work, setting priorities, meeting multiple deadlines, and evaluating assigned program area(s).
Ability to provide training, orientation, and guidance within clinical practice.
