Duties

This position starts at a salary of $112,015.00 (GS-13, Step 1) to $145,617.00 (GS-13, Step 10) with promotion potential to $145,617.00 (GS-13 Step 10). In this Operations Research Analyst position, you will become a key team member of Homeland Security professionals by collecting and analyzing data from various, disparate systems. Typical work assignments include: Applying accepted operations research and analytic methods to analyze and evaluate Mission Support Directorate (MSD) programs, projects, and processes and to support related ongoing or proposed contract work within CBP and MSD Performing and validating mathematical models and simulations, system analysis, acquisition test and evaluation analysis, economic analysis, supply chain analysis, cost analysis, and business process analysis Applying descriptive and predictive analytics with mathematical optimization methods to advise and consult to senior subject matter experts and management with broad program responsibility on alternative courses of action Drafting, coordinating briefs and monitoring resource implications of proposed and current CBP and MROD policies and regulations, technical publications and recommending changes to assure mission performance and workload accomplishment Conducting liaison with other government agencies, and stakeholders for purposes of exchanging information and engaging them in support of operations research effort

Qualifications

Experience: You qualify for the GS-13 grade level if you possess 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing duties such as: Conducting regional operations research projects using advanced concepts of operations research, statistics, and scientific methods and techniques to identify and solve a variety of complex challenges Performing quantitative and qualitative analysis, data quality assurance to include the development of graphics and reports based on the analysis Interpreting formative and summative operational and management program statistics and capabilities Serving as a senior analyst and/or advisor regarding the identifying and solving of complex operational challenges including conflicting organization requirements while serving as an organizational representative with outside groups or agencies You qualify for this position if you possess one year of specialized experience or substitution of education, if applicable, as described above and meet the basic requirement listed below. Basic Requirement: You must provide supporting documentation in your application to show you meet the basic requirement below. Degree: in operations research; or at least 24 semester hours in a combination of operations research, mathematics, probability, statistics, mathematical logic, science, or subject-matter courses requiring substantial competence in college-level mathematics or statistics. At least 3 of the 24 semester hours must have been in calculus. NOTE: Your resume must explicitly indicate how you meet this requirement, otherwise you will be found ineligible. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
