You will serve as a Senior Materials Engineer within the Non-Destructive Inspection Branch, Materials Engineering Department, MRO Engineering Group located at the U.S. Navy Fleet Readiness Center Southwest (FRCSW).
Duties
You will lead and coordinate the technical research of serious and complex materials engineering issues, which usually require many technical fields and engineering/scientific disciplines.
You will plan, coordinate, conduct, and provide extensive material engineering expertise as a Senior Materials Engineer in the Non-Destructive Inspection (NDI) Branch of the Materials Engineering Department.
You will identify, plan, evaluate, and prescribe corrective action for air vehicle deficiencies/incidents of significant proportion related to material engineering.
You will provide expert advice to senior colleagues and/or agency officials responsible for broad program operations.
You will serve as a certified NDI Level III Engineer in multiple methods, responsible for policies, procedures, and techniques related to nondestructive evaluation and inspection engineering efforts at Fleet Readiness Center Southwest

Qualifications
In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Examples of specialized experience include: 1) Applying working knowledge of materials engineering theories, principles, concepts, standards, and methods to accomplish aviation program goals and objectives; (2) Planning, coordinating, and resolving specific, difficult air vehicle engineering issues requiring substantial analysis and evaluation of causes, effects and alternatives; 3) Identifying, planning, evaluating and prescribing corrective action for air vehicle deficiencies/incidents of significant proportions reported through appropriate reporting systems to improve reliability, maintainability, survivability, interchangeability, safety, accuracy and economy; 4) Providing technical leadership to team members in support of assigned programs/projects; and 5) Maintaining working relationships with internal and external contacts for the purpose of exchanging technical information, obtaining information concerning their understanding of controversial or little-known theories and techniques, communicating program status, identifying new program and funding requirements, implementing approved actions, and identification and resolution of problems.

Education
Applicants must meet the following basic education requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual:
Successful completion of a professional engineering degree. To be acceptable, the program must: (1) lead to a bachelor's degree (or higher) in a school of engineering with at least one program accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET); or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics. Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position.

Current registration as an Engineer Intern (EI), Engineer in Training (EIT), or licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE) by any State, the District of Columbia, Guam, or Puerto Rico. Successful completion of a curriculum leading to a bachelor's degree in an appropriate scientific field, e.g., engineering technology, physics, chemistry, architecture, computer science, mathematics, hydrology, or geology, may be accepted in lieu of a bachelor's degree in engineering, provided the applicant has had at least one year of professional engineering experience acquired under professional engineering supervision and guidance. Ordinarily, there should be either an established plan of intensive training to develop professional engineering competence, or several years of prior professional engineering-type experience, e.g., in interdisciplinary positions.
