You will serve as a Senior Materials Engineer (Metals) in the Metals Branch of the Materials Engineering Department, MRO-Engineering Group of FLEET READINESS CENTER SOUTHWEST.

Duties

You will provide expert advice to senior colleagues and/or agency officials responsible for broad program operations. You will identify, plan, evaluate, and prescribe corrective action for air vehicle deficiencies/incidents of significant proportion related to material engineering. You will lead and coordinate the technical research of serious and complex materials engineering issues, which usually require many technical fields and engineering/scientific disciplines. You will provide authoritative, technical decisions and engineering dispositions to the production line, process shops, and other customers. You will resolve especially difficult or unique problems involving assigned aircraft materials. You will plan, coordinate, conduct, and provide extensive material engineering expertise as a Senior Materials Engineer in the Metals Branch of the Materials Engineering Department.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following. Examples of specialized experience: 1) Demonstrating working knowledge and understanding of a variety of standard guides, precedents, methods, practices and innovative engineering process to solve air vehicle materials engineering problems as well as to plan and conduct engineering investigations as a member of team or as a team leader; 2) Providing technical professional expertise and oversight to ensure the latest advancements in materials engineering technology (e.g. advanced manufacturing, automation, new materials), are considered and implemented in work planning; and 3) Resolving difficult or unique problems involving aircraft materials engineering requirements for assigned program/project. Education

Applicants must meet the following basic education requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual:

Successful completion of a professional engineering degree. To be acceptable, the program must: (1) lead to a bachelor's degree (or higher) in a school of engineering with at least one program accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET); or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics. Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position.

Current registration as an Engineer Intern (EI), Engineer in Training (EIT), or licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE) by any State, the District of Columbia, Guam, or Puerto Rico. Successful completion of at least 60 semester hours of courses in the physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences and in engineering that included the courses specified in the basic requirements under paragraph A (above). The courses must be fully acceptable toward meeting the requirements of an engineering program as described in paragraph A (above)

OR

Successful completion of a curriculum leading to a bachelor's degree in an appropriate scientific field, e.g., engineering technology, physics, chemistry, architecture, computer science, mathematics, hydrology, or geology, may be accepted in lieu of a bachelor's degree in engineering, provided the applicant has had at least one year of professional engineering experience acquired under professional engineering supervision and guidance. Ordinarily, there should be either an established plan of intensive training to develop professional engineering competence, or several years of prior professional engineering-type experience, e.g., in interdisciplinary positions.
