You will serve as a Evidence Custodian in the Chef Investigator Criminal Investigation Division of MARINE CORPS BASE CAMP PENDLETON.

Duties

You will recover, receive an properly mark, log, store, control and properly dispose of all evidentiary items submitted by investigators/Military and civilian police during the course of processing incident reports. You will ensure all evidentiary material meets the legal requirements of custodial documentation prior to acceptance into the evidence reports. You will alert for potential hazards relative to evidence storage and take corrective action. You will maintain accuracy and integrity of the evidence logs chain of custody documents, and the final evidence disposition tiles. You will identify and obtain the use of appropriate secured storage facilities for unusual items, i.e. ordnance oversized or bulk items etc. You will testify at court martial, civil trials and administrative hearings.

Requirements

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver’s license.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • You must meet the qualifications and be certified to carry a firearm. You will need to maintain firearm proficiency.
  • This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. You will be required to sign a DD-Form-2760, Qualification to possess firearms or ammunition.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • This is a Mission Essential position. You will be required to ensure organization or facility continuity of operations and/or completion of tasks that are considered essential to the mission designated by a local or command decision.
  • Incumbent must be able to read, write and speak English.
  • May be required to handle and process potentially hazardous or contaminated items.
  • The incumbent must satisfactory pass the Police Applicant Suitability Review (PASR) investigation.
  • The incumbent must pass a sanctioned job compatibility/psychological examination.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-07) or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector performing most or all of the following duties: 1) Recovering, logging, storing, packaging, shipping, mailing and disposing of evidentiary items; 2) Handling different types of evidence to include hazardous and biohazards, i.e., (blood, body secretions, chemical agents, narcotics, etc.); 3) Advising investigators in the proper application and interpretation of rules and regulations concerning the collection, presentation, and disposition of evidence; and 4) Responding to requests for evidence information by locating needed information using unit records and filling systems. Education

In lieu of specialized experience, you may qualify with the following education or combination of both education and experience:

master's or equivalent graduate degree

or

2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree

or

LL.B. or J.D., if related
