The incumbent of this position performs as a Motor Vehicle Operator in an established Valet Parking program. The work performed includes meeting/greeting patients/visitors, issuing parking valet parking tickets, operating automatic and standard transmission vehicles, organization of customer keys and parking tickets throughout the work day.

Duties

Major duties include, but not limited to: Incumbent operates gas and diesel engine vehicles within valet parking designated areas, vehicles having an approximate gross weight of up to 10,000 pounds. Maintains accountability of customers' vehicle keys and records of vehicles and vehicle locations. Cleans and fuels the Valet Parking assigned vehicle and reports any mechanical deficiencies to the Motor Pool. Performs customer service functions and interacts with other VA staff members. Must have basic skills for starting, stopping, backing, and driving the vehicle. Adhere to the instructions set for in the Valet Parking Procedures Manual Be professional, courteous, tactful and helpful when interacting with patients, visitors, and VA staff members. Must be able to operate two-way radios to receive and transmit messages. Performs other duties as assigned. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards. SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Physical Requirements: Incumbent exerts light physical effort in reaching, bending, turning, or moving hands, arms, feet, and legs to operate vehicle hand and foot controls. Moderate physical effort is required to assist disabled and elderly customers in and out of vehicles and in the loading/unloading of wheelchairs into customer vehicles. Walks several miles throughout the course of a workday and stands for long periods of time. Working Conditions: Incumbent is required to work outside and is occasionally exposed to bad weather conditions while loading and unloading vehicles. Incumbent drives in all types of traffic and weather conditions.
