DUTY LOCATION OF THIS POSITION IS INDIANAPOLIS, IN; IT IS NOT A REMOTE POSITION
Duties
Determines eligibility of persons to occupy sensitive positions based on security concerns related to suitability for employment.
Determines adequacy of investigations and adjudications as they relate to position sensitivity and national security classified access requirements.
Reviews and evaluates submitted documentation to initiate personnel security investigations and to determine completeness by applying security principles and pertinent guidelines.
Evaluates derogatory subject information and recommends or determines whether security clearances should be granted, suspended, revoked, denied or the investigation should be expanded.
Institutes internal controls to protect personnel security case files from inadvertent disclosure.
Consults with operating officials both internal and external to the Defense Finance and Accounting Service (DFAS), providing well thought out answers to issues concerning personnel security and suitability programs.

- Time after Competitive Appointment: Candidates must have served 3 months after latest competitive appointment in the Federal service.
- This national security position, which may require access to classified information, requires a favorable suitability review and security clearance as a condition of employment. Failure to maintain security eligibility may result in termination.

Qualifications
One year of specialized experience equivalent in level of difficulty and responsibility to that of the next lower grade (GS-09) within the federal service, which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position, is required.
Specialized Experience is defined as applying Personnel Security regulations, policy, and procedures in the review and recommendation of security clearance adjudications or suitability determinations; analyzing information from multiple sources and databases in support of security and suitability recommendations; determining eligibility for access to classified or sensitive information; responding to questions and inquiries from customers regarding personnel security and suitability regulations and procedures; processing personnel security requests for investigation.
Time-in-Grade: Current or former federal employees who have held a GS position in the preceding 52 weeks, must meet the time in grade requirement. Applicant must have served 52 weeks as a GS-09 or higher grade in Federal Service.
You may qualify for consideration if meeting time-in grade, specialized experience, education requirement, 90 days after competitive appointment requirement, and all other qualification requirements within 30 calendar days after the closing date of the announcement, unless otherwise indicated on the announcement.
Education
GS-11 Substitution of Education for Experience: Three full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree may be substituted to meet the specialized experience requirement. Equivalent combinations of successfully completed higher-level graduate level education and experience may be used to meet total experience requirements.
