The primary purpose of the Air Conditioning Equipment Operator is to perform preventive maintenance and repairs on heating and cooling systems and associated equipment throughout the Atlanta VA Medical Center as assigned.
Duties
Serves as a journeyman Air Conditioning Equipment Operator/Operator In Charge performing tasks involved in the operation and maintenance of the chiller plant servicing a large medical center.
Operate and maintain the chillers, chill water pumps, condenser water pumps and cooling towers.
Hourly inspections of operating equipment in the chiller plant to ensure proper operation.
Perform preventive maintenance and repairs on heating and cooling systems and associated equipment throughout the medical center as assigned.
Operate and monitor heating ventilation, air conditioning, refrigeration systems throughout the medical center, through the use of the energy management graphic controls system.
Operate and monitor the pneumatic control system located in the chiller plant.
Operator in charge after normal working hours such as evening, nights, and weekend shifts and holidays.
Work Schedule: 12 hour rotating shifts/plant open 24/7. (12:00PM - 12:00AM and 12:00AM - 12:00PM. Rotating days as the shift schedules every 4 weeks).

Physical Requirements: Regular walking tours of the plants to conduct inspection of equipment which include some lifting, kneeling, standing, climbing and stooping. Required to climb and work from a ladder, as well as to walk on and work from hazardous surfaces. Required to work with large, heavy hand tools and large pieces of equipment. Encounters abnormal heat and noise. Must be able to lift 50 pounds. Required to enter and clean the boiler furnace and the steam drum.

PERFERRED EXPERIENCE: 3 years of operating boilers and/or air conditioning equipment required. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards.
