This position is assigned to the USDA Forest Service, Human Resources Management, National Talent Acquisition area and serves as a Staff Assistant for the Assistant Director.
This position serves as the primary focal point and liaison for all administrative issues, some of which may be sensitive or confidential.

Duties
Duties listed are at the full performance GS-09 level.
Present and discuss a range of subjects as levels and changes in support services provided dictates.
Assist other members of the staff in the application of software systems, proper format, grammar, and conformance with desired style.
Implement approved policies, directives and plans, coordinating required management actions, and issuing implementing instructions.
Screen incoming mail, correspondence, directives, and publications. Maintains suspense on incoming and outgoing material and initiates follow-up to ensure timely reply.
Maintain supervisor's calendar and schedule appointments and meetings upon own initiative based upon personal knowledge of supervisor's workload and current issues of importance.
Arrange conferences, including such matters as location, agenda, and attendance list. Assemble background material for the assistant director.
Requirements

Qualifications

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Specialized Experience Requirement:
GS-07: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-05 grade level. Specialized experience is defined as two or more of the following: Serving as the administrative assistant managing the activities, correspondence, visitors, and inquiries directed to the organization's management staff; and/or Preparing, reviewing, and editing drafts of written correspondence, presentations, reports, and similar products; and/or Utilizing a range of automated systems to carry out administrative functions on behalf of the management staff e.g., word processing, spreadsheets, presentations, email, scheduling, travel, budget, and other comparable software and systems.
OR
One full year of graduate level education. The education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university and demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work.
OR
An appropriate combination of graduate level education and specialized experience described above.
OR
Superior Academic Achievement (go to this site determine if you are eligible: http://www.opm.gov/qualifications/policy/ApplicationOfStds-04.asp). The education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university and demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work.
GS-09: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-07 grade level. Specialized experience is defined as three or more of the following: Operating as an organization's office manager or executive assistant for top level management/executive staff managing the activities, correspondence, visitors, and inquiries for top level managers/executives; and/or Maintaining top level manager/executive's appointment schedule by planning and scheduling meetings, conferences, teleconferences, and travel; and/or Assisting with reviewing, evaluating, and implementing approved policies and coordinating required management actions as directed; and/or Assisting with studies on appropriate workflow, best methods of tracking and monitoring programs for an organization; and/or Applying an in-depth knowledge of office automation equipment, software applications, the internet, and electronic files to complete daily assignments.
OR
A master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B. or J.D., if related.
OR
An appropriate combination of specialized experience and education (only graduate education in excess of 18 semester hours may be used to qualify applicants for this grade level). The education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university and demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work.
TIME IN GRADE REQUIREMENT: If you are a current federal employee in the General Schedule (GS) pay plan and applying for a promotion opportunity, you must meet time-in-grade (TIG) requirements of 52 weeks of service at the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the position being filled. This requirement must be met by the closing date of this announcement.
