About the Position: This is an Administrative Support Assistant position with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Northwestern Division (NWD), Omaha District, Construction Division.
Duties
Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
Ensures all direct and indirect charge labor codes are properly applied and do not exceed the allotted amount at the time of recording.
Prepares correspondence, as required by Civilian Personnel Advisory Center (CPAC) and Customer Service Representatives (CSR), for all leave requests (e.g., donated leave, advanced sick leave).
Reconciles discrepancies in leave and overtime payment and coordinates with Finance/Accounting and the CPAC as necessary.
Coordinates all training for branch personnel with Training Division Personnel and disseminates information on new fiscal year training opportunities.
Facilitates processing and approvals for training, travel orders and travel vouchers. Monitors, follows-up, and identifies and resolves problems or issues related to orders or vouchers.
Prepares documents to order goods, supplies, and/or services for various operations.
Tracks procurement and other funds, obligating transactions through the computerized financial management system in compliance with standard District accounting processes to ensure integrity of fiscal records.
Receives visitors and phone calls, personally provides information requested or directs to staff members those contacts that require attention or action.
Maintains correspondence, travel related files as prescribed by regulation; maintains regulations, policies and procedures; orders.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Incumbent may be required to travel/perform Temporary Duty (TDY) 5% of the time.
- Incumbent must be proficient in typing. Position requires incumbent to be able to type at least 40 words per minute (WPM) with 3 or fewer errors.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Proficiency Required:This position requires a qualified typist. A qualified typist can type 40 words per minute based on a 5 minute sample with three or fewer errors.
GS-06 Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1) Performing administrative support functions such as timekeeping; AND 2) Drafting correspondence or other administrative reports. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).
OR
Education: A half year (i.e., 9 semester hours) of graduate level education in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 9. Add the two percentages.
Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-05).
GS-07 Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) Performing administrative support functions such as timekeeping; AND 2) Drafting correspondence or other administrative reports; AND 3) Initiating personnel actions in an automated system. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).
OR
Education: One full year of graduate level education in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 18. Add the two percentages.
