The position serves as the warhead engineering technical authority for the organization in assignments concerning electrical/mechanical/nuclear systems and subsystems of legacy nuclear warheads as well as the electrical/mechanical/nuclear mechanisms and/or components of related subsystems. Provides technical expertise in the design, development, commission, manufacture, operation, maintenance, and disposal of electrical/mechanical devices, systems, their equipment, and/or components used in nuclear warheads, related support equipment, and integration on aircraft.
Candidates should have demonstrated experience in working effectively with multiple DOD, Federally Funded Research and Development Centers, academic and private industry organizations. Nuclear warhead and DOE/DOD nuclear enterprise knowledge and/or experience is highly desired.
DUTIES:
Serve as technical lead responsible for all electrical and systems engineering activities required for the assigned mission and/or design, development, production, test and support of assigned nuclear systems.
Evaluate contractor's technical proposals.
Represent the organization with all levels of management, including functional counterparts, HQ AFMC, HAF/A10, USAF MAJCOMs and US COCOMs, USAF System Program Offices, DOD and other federal agencies, HQ DOE/NNSA, DOE National Laboratories, and industry partners.

- Required to handle and safeguard sensitive and/or classified information in accordance with regulations to reduce potential compromise; employee must obtain and maintain a Top Secret and Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) clearance.
- Locations are not negotiable. The actual duty locations available may be located on the Air Force Civilian Service website.
- This is a drug testing designated position. The incumbent is subject to pre-employment drug testing as a condition of employment, and participation in random drug testing.

- Employee must meet Defense Acquisition Workforce Improvement Act (DAWIA) requirements, which includes achieving Engineering and Technical Management “Practitioner” certification category within required timeframe after appointment.
- 10+ years of experience in the air delivered nuclear enterprise and warhead design and maintenance is desired.
- Knowledge of DOE/DOD nuclear enterprise.
- In accordance with the Ethics in Government Act, 1978, employee may be required to file an OGE Form 450, Confidential Financial Disclosure Report, upon appointment and will be required to file annually.
- Highly desired: 10+ years of engineering or scientific discipline in the following areas: Electrical Engineer, Mechanical Engineer, Physicist, Nuclear Engineer, and/or Mathematics/Statistics.
- Incumbent must have a Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering. An advanced degree and completion of Intermediate or Senior Developmental Education (IDE/SDE) are highly desirable.
- Employee may be required to work overtime.
- Position designated Key: Incumbents on this position may need to be removed from their military recall status if alternatives for filling the position during an emergency are not available.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
1. The subject position requires a degree in engineering, or its equivalent, as specified in the Qualification Standards Handbook for General Schedule Positions, and extensive experience in engineering technical management.
2. Recognized expert knowledge and mastery of professional and programmatic engineering theories, principles, practices and techniques relating to systems is required to analyze complex interdisciplinary problems and general/develop new concepts and methods which provide significant technical solutions that have far-reaching impact in assigned areas.
3. Broad and/or extensive knowledge of electrical, mechanical, aeronautical, and materials engineering, modeling and simulation, hardware component and system testing, and flight and laboratory testing to assess interrelated requirements and impacts.
4. Broad knowledge and experience with schedule and cost risk analyses to quantify risk impacts as identified in workshops or as part of Integrated Risk Assessments.
5. Ability to organize, lead and integrate the efforts of other experts and specialists is required to develop new concepts and approaches; solve very complex interdisciplinary problems, develop new policy; and define new programs/technical plans and requirements.
