About the Position: This vacancy is located in the Directorate of Aviation Operations, Flight Simulator Branch located on Fort Cavazos, TX. Ft Cavazos is nicknamed The Great Place because of the quality of life the post and area offer Soldiers and their families. Ft Cavazos covers a total of 340 sq miles and rests in the beautiful 'hill and lake' country of Central Texas, between Killeen and Copperas Cove.
Duties
Oversee the operation of the AH-64 flight simulator.
Evaluate comprehension, retention, and application of procedures related to visual and instrument flight, tactical flight, helicopter gunnery, aircraft/weapons system operations, and limitations.
Review aviator training records.
Train and evaluate rated pilots and/or instructors/examiners in advanced techniques and procedures for rotary wing aircraft.
Conduct crew briefings on mission, weather, flight route, performance data, flight control transfer, crew duties and emergency duties.
Conduct Flight Simulator Training and instruction.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
- Employee may be required to work non-standard hours (after regular duty hours and weekends) as necessary to accomplish mission objectives.
- Pre-employment physical is required.

SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTOR: The incumbent of this position is required to possess and maintain an AH-64(D/E) Instructor Pilot and/or Instrument Examiner certification. NOTE: You must attached a copy of your certification or DD-214 showing your certification to your application package for verification. FAILURE TO SUBMIT THE DOCUMENTATION WILL RESULT IN YOUR APPLICATION BEING RATED AS INELIGIBLE.
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience that demonstrates a practical knowledge of the subject area of the position and of the methods and techniques of instruction, which includes serving as an Instructor Pilot and/or Instrument Examiner of basic and advanced rotary wing flight techniques, normal and emergency procedures, and rotary wing systems and operations involving AH -64 (D/E) aircraft. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09).

Education: Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree with a major study in education or a subject area related to the position to be filled, such as education or aviation. Note: You must include your transcripts.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages. Note: You must include your transcripts.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-09).
