This position is located under the Office of Science and Technology (OST), Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL), Washington in Beltsville, Maryland.
Serves as a Biologist (Forensic) providing highly technical and scientific services that directly facilitate the accomplishment and support the Bureau's enforcement programs. Typical work assignments include:

Basic Requirements
A. Degree: biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position.
OR
B. A combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown in "A" above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. The education or combined education and experience must demonstrate that you possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the work of the position and be comparable to that acquired through successful completion of a bachelor's or higher degree in the appropriate field.
To qualify for the GS-11, candidates must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level GS-09.
Specialized experience is demonstrated experience, which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to perform successfully the duties of this position. Experience must be in the normal line of progression or must be related to the work of the position advertised and must be reflected in resume. Examples of specialized experience include:
Performing basic forensic DNA examinations with close technical guidance; and
Interpreting, evaluating, and analyzing the results of examinations; and
Using laboratory policies, regulations, standard approaches, and methods to perform basic forensic DNA examinations; and
Assisting senior examiners with development of information, new methods, or novel approaches to address trends and or problems; and
Drawing conclusions and taking actions that are fully documented and based on the physical examination of the evidence as well as the interpretation of the analytical results.
Education
All academic degrees and course work must be completed at a college or university that has obtained accreditation or pre-accreditation status from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. For a list of schools that meet this criteria see www.ed.gov.
