This position is located at the Robley Rex VA Medical Center in Louisville, KY. The Data Transcriber - Medical Scribe functions as member of a diverse, multi-professional team who works at the direction of a licensed independent practitioner (LIP) to capture and enter information into an electronic health record (EHR).

Duties

***THIS IS NOT A VIRTUAL POSITION, YOU MUST LIVE WITHIN OR BE WILLING TO RELOCATE WITHIN A COMMUTABLE DISTANCE OF THE DUTY LOCATION*** Duties include, but are not limited to, the following: Accompanies the LIP during each patient visit and documenting/transcribing information in the EHR; Documents medical visits and procedures as they are being performed by the physician or LIP; Effectively navigates, ensures regulatory compliance, reviews and gathers information from the health record; Facilitates the flow of patients through the clinic by queuing orders including referrals, tests, medications, encounters, etc.; Forwards documentation to the LIP for review, approval and signature; Assists the treatment team in ensuring medical documentation complies with Joint Commission and other accreditation body requirements; Participates in quality improvement activities in an ongoing basis and recommends changes for improvement; Ensures workload credit and statistical information is maintained for the medical center; Manages time appropriately and prioritizes workload to ensure completion; Performs other related duties as assigned. TYPING PROFICIENCY: This position requires the skills of a qualified typist. In addition to meeting the experience and/or education requirements, you must be able to type at least 25 words per minute. ~AND~ This position includes a Selective Placement Factor (skill, knowledge, ability or other worker characteristic basic to - and essential for - satisfactory performance of the job). Selective Placement Factors are a prerequisite to appointment and represent minimum requirements for a position. Applicants who do not meet it are ineligible for further consideration. The Selective Placement Factor for this position is: "Do you possess the required knowledge of medical terminology?" ~AND~ In addition to meeting the Typing Proficiency and Selective Placement Factor, to qualify for this position, you must also meet one of the following: Experience: At least one (1) year of progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled. Experience includes performing work such as transcribing information into an electronic record, ensuring accuracy, spelling, punctuation and grammar, utilizing a variety of computer applicants/software such as word processing, spreadsheet database and audio-visual presentation software. Due to the major duties and responsibilities of this position, all applicants must have knowledge of medical terminology.Applicants must demonstrate exceptional organizational skills and show the ability to accurately document medical records. NOTE: Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. ~OR~ Education: Successful completion of two (2) years of education above the high school level in an accredited institution. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Physical Requirements: The work is sedentary and does not require any special physical effort. Some work may require walking and standing in conjunction with travel and attendance at meetings and conferences away from the work site. May carry light items such as papers, books, and portable computer. The work often requires long hours to meet projected deadlines and to devise corrective action and solutions to unexpected technical delays. The work area is adequately lighted, heated and ventilated and involves everyday risks and discomforts that require normal safety precautions.
