Duties

This position is located in the Office of Legislative Affairs (OLA), Office of Congressional and Public Affairs (OCPA), Director’s Office, Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP). Serves as the OCPA’s liaison to Congress regarding the Members' role in providing services to and responding to the concerns and requests of their constituents. Assists with the development and analysis of legislation and with the implementation of new laws. Communicates the policies, practices, programs, operations, and services of the BOP and the impact that potential legislation could have on the Bureau either over the phone or in meetings with Congressional staffers (and on occasion with Members of Congress}.

Qualifications

To be considered for the position, you must meet the following qualification requirements: Education: There is no substitution of education for specialized experience for this position. Experience: You must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and complexity to the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. To be creditable, this experience must have equipped the applicant with the particular qualifications to perform successfully the duties of the position, and must typically be in or related to the position to be filled. Some examples of this qualifying experience are: Experience and thorough knowledge and understanding of the organization, mission, goals, policies, programs, services, and operations of the Bureau of Prisons. Experience in knowledge of the structure, operations, procedures, and activities of the U.S. Congress and the process by which Federal legislation is developed, amended, and enacted. Experience in knowledge of political systems, elections, and political activities at the Federal and State level. Experience interacting with a variety of individuals in the offices of Members of Congress, at all levels of government agencies and private sector organizations, and in the general public If applicable, credit will be given for paid and unpaid experience. To receive proper credit, you must show the actual time (such as number of hours worked per week) spent in the activities. **Your eligibility for consideration will be based on your responses to the questions in the application.**
