About the Position: This position is with the National Guard Bureau, G-9, Environmental Division, Compliance Branch, Arlington, VA.
About the Surrounding Area: Situated in Northern Virginia on the south bank of the Potomac River directly across from Washington D.C. Arlington is headquarters to many departments and agencies of the federal government, including the Department of Defense and is the location of many national memorials and museums.
Duties
Provide management level oversight and guidance for compliance with the clean water act and safe drinking water act.
Collaborate with organizational leaders and staff on environmental program execution and scope.
Develop environmental policy, guidance and training for leaders and staff.
Conduct long-term planning, programming and budgeting for environmental compliance projects.
Represent the organization by interfacing with Federal level working groups and providing guidance on federal regulatory changes as well as revisions to organizational environmental policies, regulations, and instructions.
Conduct routine quality assurance reviews of environmental assessment audit findings for the organization.
Prepare reports to congressional letters of inquiries on environmental problems and/or complaints.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment.
- This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 25% of the time.
- Appointment to this position is subject to an one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service which includes: conducting on-site inspections to ensure installation programs are compliant with environmental regulations; participating in the development of environmental protection operating procedures and policies; working with a variety of environmental programs such as water, air, hazardous/solid waste, pollution prevention, pest management, asbestos, and lead; identifying areas with potentially harmful environmental impacts. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12).
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirements using experience alone - no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
