This position is located in the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), Financial Management Division, Office of Administration, Environmental Management Section (FSE). This position(s) primary purpose is to serve as a team lead responsible for activities associated with ensuring environmental compliance to include the proper management of hazardous waste, as well as activities involving the development and implementation of DEA's Environmental Management System and sustainability programs.

As a Lead Environmental Protection Specialist, your typical work assignments may include: Serves as a staff advisor and recognized expert in the Environmental Management Systems (EMS) for the DEA. Develops environmental policies and procedures related to the Illicit Hazardous Environment cleanup program and sustainability programs. Conducts cleanup program compliance audits and EMS audits, program related studies and analyses; preparing reports and briefing materials; conducting briefings and training presentations. Reports to the supervisor periodically on team and individual work accomplishments, problems, progress in mastering tasks and work processes, and individual and team training needs Serves as a Team Lead over three or more positions with a GS-13 base level.

You may qualify at the GS-14 level, if you fulfill the following qualification requirement: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 grade level in the Federal service (experience may have been gained in the private sector) that demonstrate your ability in: 1) Participating in audits/inspections at, for example, hazardous waste response, treatment, storage, and disposal facilities.; 2) Developing new approaches and methodologies for ensuring compliance with environmental laws; 3) Writing environmental guidance's and processes for a team/division. Specialized experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. For a GS-14 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-13. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement.
