This position is in the Dental Department at the Fort Thompson IHS Health Center. The primary purpose of this position is to manage and supervise the Dental Department in the health center and to provide professional dental care in connection with the diagnostic treatment of commonly encountered dental diseases or dental health problems requiring standard corrective, restorative, or preventive measures.
Duties
Provide direct dental care services of a scope, quality and quantity consistent with IHS, Great Plains Area and service unit policies.
Performs restoration and cavities with standard and prescribed materials. Administers local anesthesia. Perform single and multiple extractions of teeth and treats periodontal disease.
Establishes relationships with tribal groups, clinical staff and IHS personnel to facilitate(s) appropriate health care provisions.
Ensures that department expenditures, supplies and equipment are within allocated budget; ensures compliance with JCAHO or other accreditation requirements; and provides professional dental administrative activities for assessing planning and developing for dental services. Provides supervision to dental staff by assigning and evaluating work, interviews employees for positions, recommends appointment promotion or reassignment, resolves employee complaints, effects minor disciplinary measures such as warnings and reprimands and identifies training needs.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
GS-12: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Coordinate the day-to day clinical functions of a Dental Clinic; Provide professional dental care; Manage work schedules of subordinate staff; Advise in personnel matters relating to the dental staff including: recruiting and hiring; Maintains dental budget; Orientate new staff members and provide support staff training.
Time In Grade
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
