Duties
You will Calibrate chemical feeding machines to produce chemical composition (e.g., chlorine, fluoride, pH balance, corrosion control).
You will Calibrate water plant treating and pumping systems (e.g., auxiliary gasoline and diesel motors, generators) for preventative maintenance.
You will Perform prescribed tests (e.g., turbidity, combined chlorine) to determine amount of chemicals for the treatment of potable water.
You will Use test equipment (e.g., handheld pH meters, chlorine meters, multi-meters, pressure meters, flow meters) to identify defects in water distribution or treatment plant equipment.
You will Test water for fluoride and phosphate residuals.
You will use tools and devices (e.g., meters, gauges, motors, pumps, feeders, recording, control devices) to measure water quality.
You will read gauges and meters of equipment (e.g., filter beds, surge pumps, hypo-chlorinators, phosphate readers, dry-lime feeders, lime solution tanks) to interpret and record measurements.
You will interpret equipment maintenance and operating instructions to keep water systems operational.
You will prevent major damage or system shut-downs by adhering to water treatment plant maintenance requirements.
Requirements
- Must be a US Citizen.
- Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
- Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.

- Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.

- You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver’s license, must maintain on-base driving privileges once obtained.
- This is a bargaining unit position.
- You must possess and maintain a current Water Treatment Plant Operators Certificate C-WELL or higher.
- This is a Mission Essential position. You will be required to ensure organization or facility continuity of operations and/or completion of tasks that are considered essential to the mission designated by a local or command decision.
- This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required. Overtime may be required.
- Incumbents who currently possess and equivalent North Carolina C Water Treatment Plant Operator's Certificate Grade C-Well or higher from another state "Continued below".
- Must obtain and maintain the required North Carolina C Water Treatment Plant Operator's Certificate Grade C-Well or higher (at there own expense) with in six months of being hired.
- You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
Qualifications
Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.
