These positions are located at Gateway NRA, in the Facilities Management Division, Jamaica Bay Operation, SAHO Operation, STIS Operation. The primary purpose of these positions is to perform building and/or utility maintenance and operation duties. Work requires journeyman knowledge and skills in several trades and craft areas, including carpentry, plumbing, masonry, painting and roofing.
Duties
Construct, alter, modify, or repair a wide range of features in buildings, quarters and other facilities in accordance with the accepted practices of the applicable trades and crafts areas.
Construct, repair, and replace floors, shelving, rafters, stairways, doors, windows, and roofs.
Install, modify, and repair new and existing utility, supply, and disposal systems and equipment such as potable and wastewater distribution systems and related equipment such as mains, valves, storage tanks, floats, fittings, sinks, and toilets.
Work from building plans, blueprints, and sketches to plan and layout the routing, placement, slant, slope fall, and proper operation of systems and equipment.
Perform incidental duties related to facilities, roads, walkway, and parking lot maintenance during weather-related incidents, including snow and debris removal.

A specific length of time and experience is not required; however you must be able to demonstrate the rough experience shown in your written application, that you possess sufficient knowledge, skill and ability to perform the duties of the position without more than normal supervision.
To qualify for this position, you must have sufficient knowledge and ability in the following job-related factors:
Ability to do the work of a Maintenance Mechanic without more than normal supervision (SCREEN OUT)
Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, Repair, etc.
Technical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic)
Use of Measuring Instruments
Ability to interpret instructions, specifications, etc. (other than blueprints)
Ability to use and maintain tools and equipment
Knowledge of Materials
